Launch Digest: Everything’s Coming Up Cherry Blossoms, Picnics, And (Finally, A Perfect) Mineral Sunscreen

Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the web’s best products. If you purchase through our links, we may receive a commission. Our editorial team is independent and only endorses products we believe in.

Welcome to Launch Digest, where we bring you the latest and greatest product launches to hit the market across the DTC universe. While the launches are all over the map this week, each one seems to have a little spring in its step. Herby hummus, Sake spritzes, and cherry blossoms to brighten your bathmat, blanket, and walls. And speaking of blossoms: have you locked in your Mother’s Day bouquet? Stick with me, and you’ll have your pick of rununculas and roses by the end of this read.

Bright Delights For Your Spring Palette

If you followed my instructions from last week’s dispatch, you might find yourself with a lighter, brighter wardrobe. Now it’s time to turn to your kitchen. Throw out your old oils and anchovies and meet this week’s launches with open arms, because your salads are about to get seriously fabulous!

Brightland’s Mini Artist series is back in stock – after selling out four times over, which speaks for itself – featuring four petite versions of Brightland’s chili, garlic, lemon, and basil olive oils. It also happens to be beautifully packaged and the perfect add-on to any park sunset or work lunch situation. Business AND pleasure, what can’t Brightland do?

While you’re assembling your park picnic basket, throw in what might be the new canned spritz of the season: SummerFall, a sparkling sake made with locally sourced California rice and enriched by wine fermentation methods. Handcrafted in California with white koji and wine yeast, it’s wonderfully acidic, unlike anything I’ve tasted before, and pairs well with a salty chip and an ocean breeze.

Little Sesame launched a limited edition Greens Goddess hummus in collaboration with DJ LP Giobbi: freshly spun hummus, brightened by mint, parsley, and tarragon. I would smash that add-to-cart button, collab or not (especially because I am, confessionally, DJ-illiterate).

Fishwife launched two Albacores — one in Olive Oil, and another in a spicy Spanish olive oil, infused with smoked paprika and chili pepper. Both are delicious and sustainably sourced, as per the Fishwife standard. It seems like every launch in this category wants a ticket to your picnic basket?

Get The Tan, Skip The Damage: Vacation Handles Your Complexion

It might seem like we talk about Vacation every week, but you’ll have to blame the scientists behind the leisure-enhancing sunscreen, because they can’t stop filling in all the gaps of my sun protection regimen. This week, the brand introduced FACE by Vacation, featuring three SPF innovations designed to meticulously protect your face (while simultaneously nourishing your skin).

Credit: Vacation

First up, we have my personal favorite: Shake Shake SPF 50 Mineral Milk, an ultra-light formula featuring a non-nano ZincWater that blends in smooth and clear on all skin tones. It’s also packing hyaluronic acid, niacinimade, ceramides and collagen to strengthen the skin barrier, and nourishing cucumber, white tea, and aloe vera to replenish your skin both pre- and post-sun. Have tested and CAN confirm: this is not your mother’s chalky white mineral sunscreen, and it is the answer to my prayers (and maybe yours, too) for a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t scream ZINC across my complexion.

The Super Stick, an SPF 45 designed for daily driving and targeted application, is on call for on-the-go application – and formulated with a decidedly non-waxy feel. (Think: Mineral Milk for your morning beauty routine, Super Stick for your glove compartment and tennis bag.)

Last but most certainly not least, meet the Studio Tone SPF 50 Bronzing Drops, which deliver a studio-quality bronzed glow with natural mineral pigments and a broad spectrum SPF 50. I have a feeling this is the summer skin secret, boosted with Ferulic Acid, Vitamin E, and Algae to defend against environmental stressors and enhance skin radiance. Never have I ever felt so excited – and prepared – for long days in the sun.

Before we leave your skincare routine, Erno Laszlo and Dr. Jart have a few more sparkly objects for your consideration. If you haven’t heard of Erno Laszlo, you might be intrigued to know it’s been around for nearly a century, and was used by both Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. But the brand isn’t resting on these laurels: they just launched a science-backed power duo (an essence and cream) to repair your skin barrier, featuring a trademarked Phelityl Complex, an evolution of Dr. Laszlo’s signature complex to support the skin’s moisture barrier. What’s up with all of these trademarked hydrating complexes? If it’s anything like Augustinus Bader’s, it might be worth some fanfare!

Dr. Jart launched an overnight mask that floods skin with all-night hydration, helping to – you guessed it – restore the skin barrier, leaving your skin with a glassy glow. Notably on the heels of Goop’s 72-hour hydrating water cream, which we discussed last week. This Spring’s skincare certainly has a theme, and it’s some permutation of the buzzwords: skin barrier, hydrating, overnight, and plumping.

Flowers For Textiles And Vases

Credit: Doen

Flowers are to spring as skin barrier is to DTC skincare this month. If you haven’t settled your Mother’s Day bouquet plans, get your head on straight, and head straight to Farmgirl Flowers, where the Mother’s Day Shop is bursting with peonies, roses, and poppies that will ship directly to your mom’s (or mother figure’s) door. This one takes the cake.

Meanwhile, Cold Picnic wants to cover your home – literally, floor-to-ceiling – in cherry blossoms. Inspired by an exhibition of Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige’s art, which opened at the Brooklyn Museum last week, the collection celebrates the distinct beauty of Sakura flowers with a subtle palette of understated blues and grays to enhance the vibrant cherry blossom pink. It’s a mesmerizing launch. If you want just a taste, go with a throw; to immerse yourself in a cherry blossom wonderland (sign me up), why not paper your bathroom in a haze of petals and blossoms

And for florals you can wear, see: Doen’s third release of its Spring Chapter, featuring out of this world beading and classic pieces you’ll buy now and wear forever. If you’re shopping for your summer wedding guest staples, look no further.

Happy shopping. Email me directly – zoe@thequalityedit.com – with any launches you’d like to see in the spotlight, or DM us over @thequalityedit
