What Is Brodo Broth?
Brodo makes bone- and meat-free veggie-based broths. The chicken and beef broths are made using bones from 100% grass-fed, antibiotic- and hormone-free animals. Like any good broth, the bones are simmered with veggies and aromatics for a well-rounded, deep flavor. On the ingredient panel, you might find kelp for saltiness, shiitake mushrooms and canned tomatoes for umami, and the classic trio of carrots, onions, and celery.
The broths are sold in shelf-stable 1-cup pouches, so they won’t take up all the room in your fridge. Plus, the single-serve size means you’re not left with an awkward lingering box of unused broth. That said, they do produce more packaging waste.

Brodo Broth Review
So how do all these flavors taste? I’m a trained chef who was raised to understand that homemade broth is the foundation of great cooking. I was skeptical that a shelf-stable, packaged broth could compare to homemade. Well, consider me surprised.
I was immediately impressed by the texture of the broth. Cold or room temperature, each packet (especially the bone broth) is gelatinous and jiggly—a signature of collagen, and the tell-tale sign of a high-quality broth.
When heated, the jelly-like blobs melt away and the liquid’s full flavor blooms. Many of these broths are lower in sodium than your typical canned or cartoned store-bought options, so they don’t hit you in the face with saltiness. And there’s no musty flavor you sometimes get from packaged broths made from powders and billions. These tasted fresh and well-rounded, as close to homemade as I’ve tasted.
I enjoyed simply sipping the warm broth from a mug. Sometimes I added a sprinkling of croutons or sesame seeds for crunch. I also used a couple of Brodo packets to make a quick soup by warming them on the stove and tossing in some frozen veggies and shredded rotisserie chicken. I ladled it over noodles for a nearly instant chicken noodle soup.
