In partnership with Ever/Body.
When it comes to cosmetic dermatology, I’ve always been in the camp of do-whatever-you-want-to-your-own-body. That’s none of my business!
I’ve personally done a lot of treatments (a chemical peel, Botox, laser hair removal, fillers), and while I think cosmetic dermatology can be seen as artificial or trying to make you into something you’re not, my experience has purely been one of enhancing what I naturally have. Even though I’m still young (29, to be exact), there are parts of myself that I want to enhance – and I like that cosmetic derm treatments require little to no downtime and don't dramatically change my look (or my life).
My one “thing” is that I like to be in good hands. I prefer a science-backed approach to treatments, and while I’ve never done something drastic, it’s comforting to walk into a place with people who actually know what they’re doing.
That’s why I love Ever/Body.
We like
We don't like
A ‘haven for high-tech beauty services’ that prides itself on achieving natural looking results by expert providers, Ever/Body works with you on personalized treatment plans to achieve your skin and body goals. The company sets itself apart by providing convenient availability (yes, that means evening and Sunday appointments are offered), transparent pricing, and a personalized approach. Intrigued, I recently booked a Clear & Brilliant treatment on New York’s Upper East Side, and I haven’t stopped glowing about it since.
A Tranquil Oasis of Self-Care
Stepping into Ever/Body feels inviting without being pretentious – it’s a really comfortable and clean environment. While the facility is simple, it exudes an aesthetic charm. I had been to a few different Ever/Body locations prior to this and have always been impressed by the attention to detail (including cute photo opportunities – like the bathroom wallpaper – which proved irresistible for capturing Instagram-worthy moments).
A Personalized Approach
My nurse practitioner really made me feel comfortable and at ease. She explained a lot of the process and some of the aftercare as well as asked me about my skincare concerns (and why the C+B would be great for me). She also made sure I was comfortable in the chair while putting the numbing cream on me.
After 15 minutes my aesthetician came in and we immediately dove into all the questions I had about the Clear & Brilliant Laser Facial treatment. While I was excited about what I had read online (‘pulsating light gently penetrates the skin to create micro-injuries that trigger the production of collagen and cellular repair to nudge fresh, new skin to the surface’), I had heard that laser treatments weren’t great for POC, and I was concerned that this facial would harm my skin. To my relief, my aesthetician was also a WOC, and we were able to talk about the types of laser facials we can do versus can’t do. Afterwards, I felt much more confident about the treatment. I really felt like I was in good hands with people that knew what the f*** they were actually doing compared to other medspas.
The Treatment Experience
When it came time for the actual treatment, my esthetician explained exactly what each laser did, how she would move them around my skin, and what areas I might feel the most “spiciness” in. Once we started the treatment, it was an absolute breeze. Even she was shocked at how I wasn’t flinching at all. It really just felt like getting home after a hot summer day at the beach with sunburnt skin.
The only part that was a bit “spicy” was the neck, which she had warned me about prior to beginning the treatment. After she finished the first laser, I was definitely getting that hot and toasty sensation. Thankfully she provided me with a fan for the entire treatment to help cool off my skin a bit. Once she moved onto the second laser, I couldn’t feel a thing (the first laser is more intense than the second).
After completing the laser portion, my esthetician applied a soothing cooling gel and used ice globes to further calm and cool my skin. Normally after this treatment you’ll look red like a tomato, but thankfully my skin looked relatively normal. I was able to go about the rest of my day since there really wasn’t any downtime. I did avoid makeup, working out, and the sun for the first few days since I really wanted to protect my skin (and help the results). Over the next few days, the only thing I noticed was my skin feeling like sandpaper. This was totally normal and expected over the 7-10 days because it’s the dead skin coming to the surface. I just loaded up with moisturizer, SPF, vitamin C, and the occasional swipe of Aquaphor.
I’m on day 5 and the sandpaper sensation is slowly starting to go away – I can’t wait to see what my skin will look like over the next few days and weeks. I don’t think I would have gone anywhere else to do this treatment, and I’m so grateful that I had such an incredible team that answered all my questions and calmed my nerves. During the treatment I told my esthetician that I wanted to come back to her for every treatment going forward, whether it be for my skin or body. I really meant that – I feel like I can really achieve the body and skin goals I have always dreamt of with Ever/Body and I can’t wait to go back for my next appointment!
