From the College Classroom to Global Impact
I actually remember hearing about Love Your Melon way back when I was in college, so when I looked back into the brand recently, it felt like picking up with an old friend right where you left off. Love Your Melon has collegiate beginnings, actually originating in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. Founded by two friends with a goal to have a business with meaningful and positive social impact, the original goal was to put a hat on every child battling cancer. This is a lofty goal, as approximately 47 children are diagnosed with cancer each day in the United States alone. This goal was impressively met, but Love Your Melon didn’t stop there.
Love Your Melon has since evolved into a globally-known and loved brand of beanies and other apparel. Today, Love Your Melon has given over $9.8M and 253K+ beanies to the same cause, children fighting cancer. This type of generosity doesn’t just happen; it takes putting people over profits. Love Your Melon does this by giving 50% of net profit from the sale of all products to nonprofits focused on groundbreaking pediatric cancer research, therapeutic experiences, and family support. In practice, this means many children battling cancer get better therapeutic experiences, as well as charitable programming experiences.

Beanies, Baby!
We’ve all seen brands that focus a bit too much on the impact… and not so much the product. Love Your Melon, thankfully, is not one of those brands. Love Your Melon has worked tirelessly to engineer their beanies to be versatile, comfortable, and to suit any style. One of their most well-recognized products, Black Speckled Beanie ($35), is also one of my favorites. It’s one of the simpler designs, with four base colors and the signature patch with zig zag stitching in the center, but sometimes, simple is best! The beanie is so soft and fits with pretty much any outfit.
I also love that it is double-thick, meaning it’s actually going to do its job – keep your head warm! If you are interested in a slightly fancier design, Love Your Melon offers a cute option with a detachable natural faux fur pom so you can have the best of both worlds. As a mom, one of the most important features I look for beyond style in a product is… is it washable? Thankfully, Love Your Melon passes that test with flying colors, as the beanies are machine-washable and can even be dried in the dryer. Skip the dry cleaner on this one – that’s one less thing on your to-do list, mama.
If beanies aren’t really your thing, Love Your Melon has something for you, too. The Black Speckled Hero Cap ($40) provides major protection and the Hero Headband ($22) keeps your hair out of your face in style. Personally, though, my favorite non-beanie product is the Natural Speckled Hero Bucket Hat ($50). How cute would this be for your next tailgate?! With their signature poms as Mickey ears, these are the perfect way to show your Mickey love and make an impact, too.

All things considered, we’re pretty impressed that a brand can have us looking good, feeling good, and making an impact. Childhood cancer is an unfathomable reality of our society and I am so thankful Love Your Melon has made this cause a priority. Beyond that, they’ve given us as consumers an easy way to make an impact with our purchases.
