Loewe has had quite a 2024. From dominating the red carpet best dressed lists at the Oscars, Met Gala, and Cannes Film Festival to turning out some of the buzziest and most inventive runway collections for the year, the iconic Spanish fashion house seems unstoppable. Creative director Jonathan Anderson has a seemingly boundless creative appetite – on top of running both Loewe and his namesake brand, JW Anderson, he also designed the costumes for everyone’s favorite tennis throuple EDM nail-biter, Challengers.
Anderson clearly had fun stepping into the athleisure space while designing costumes for Zendaya to sweat through, since he’s turned out two athletics-inspired collaborations this spring. His nearly sold-out Uniqlo collab was a smash hit, bringing his signature wearable chic sensibility to a more accessible price point. So when the fifth Loewe x On capsule collection dropped, we were ravenously excited to see how Anderson would approach a more explicitly athleisure line. Credit cards at the ready, we logged onto the On website as soon as the collection was released. Our jaws dropped. Our hearts sank. Our minds raced to justify spending $990 on a grey sweatshirt. No matter how complex our girl math calculations, and no matter how deep our desire for a head-to-toe Loewe gym fit, we simply couldn’t do it.
Since despair is not the name of the game at The Quality Edit, we mended our broken hearts and put together a killer list of dupes and alts for the latest Loewe x On capsule collection. In researching this piece, we discovered that we’re truly living in the golden age of comfy luxury athleisure. To our delight, the athletic wear that we tested for this piece far surpassed our expectations in terms of quality, fit, and style. To boot, JW Anderson’s Uniqlo collab is extremely high quality and extremely affordable.
So fear not, Loewe fans. We’re here to reassure you that you do not, in fact, need to spend $1,000 on a sweatshirt. Read on for our top picks to fill the Loewe x On shaped hole in your hearts (and carts).

Sweatshirt Dupes
The heart of the Loewe x On collab is their $990 sweatshirt. While our dupes and alternatives don’t sport the massive hybrid Loewe x On logo, they’re everything you want in a functional, well-fitted sweatshirt, at a fraction of the cost.
Budget Pick
Our top pick for a classic gray sweatshirt that won’t break the bank is Buck Mason’s signature midweight crew. Buck Mason’s vintage-inspired shirt is thin enough to not overheat while working out, but cozy enough to become the softest, most-worn sweatshirt in your closet.

Designer-Pedigreed Alt
Now that GAP is under Zac Posen’s leadership, the classic American brand has a newly highbrow pedigree behind its staples. This sweatshirt is roomy, soft, and the perfect shade of heather gray. What more do you need?

Luxury Options That Don’t Break $1K
We love this oversized sweatshirt from Acne Studios. The dropped shoulders make it extra comfy and the garment-dyed charcoal color adds interesting texture. For those wanting a bit of subtle luxury branding on display, the back of the sweatshirt features a classic rubberized Acne Studios tag.

The latest Loewe x On capsule features hot pink accents throughout the collection. To bring a little Baby Spice x Sporty Spice into your wardrobe, we are obsessed with this bubblegum pink Versace sweatshirt, and we love how the SSENSE team has styled it with a glam mini skirt to take it the look from the gym to a date night out.

The Rest of The Collection
The Swiss athletics company On is one of our favorite running shoe brands, Jonathan Anderson collab or no. They’ve recently partnered with Anderson muse Zendaya to put together an edit of her favorite looks from their broader collection. Apparently the queen of red carpet fashion also has impeccable taste in athleisure. We love the sleek look and cushioned fit of On Runnings’ signature Cloudtilt sneaker. Whether or not you shell out an extra few hundred dollars for the Loewe edition is up to you.

One way we love to add a subtle IYKYK flex to our outfits is a designer sock. While we’re not prepared to shell out for the pink Loewe x On socks, Jonathan Anderson designed stunning socks for his Uniqlo collab, including his signature initial logo. Run while you can still snag these, prices – and supplies – are low.
