Matcha is easily coffee’s number one competition, and until recently, I had the assumption that there’s no way any other caffeinated beverage could replace my beloved iced vanilla latte. But then I tried matcha from Jade Leaf Matcha and quite literally fell in love.
If you haven’t heard of the company, Jade Leaf Matcha is the #1 matcha brand in the US with over 80,000 5 star reviews on Amazon. They sell authentic Japanese Matcha crafted in Japan. In fact, in Japanese, it translates to “rubbed tea.” Their matcha blends are uniquely crafted for the modern consumer — especially those who love a nice beverage to start their day, or as a midday pick-me-up.
Jade Leaf Matcha prides themselves in being pure, responsibly sourced, all-natural, affordable, and convenient. They allow you to create a cafe-like experience right in the comfort of your own home – and it’ll taste even better than the matcha you get at a cafe. The brand’s matcha is produced by the Kizuna Tea Collective, a network of family-run tea farms who have been cultivating high-quality matcha since 1858.
While I love taking a trip to a local coffee shop and sipping on a cup of joe that was made for me, taking the time (which wasn’t very long at all) to make a cup of matcha throughout the week was something I thoroughly enjoyed. One particular aspect I loved was that I could make my cup of matcha anyway I liked it — which was especially nice since I’m a matcha newbie. You can add any milk, sweetener, and flavors that you want. Plus, it gives you a boost of energy sans the jitters and crashes some of us know all too well from coffee.
My ultimate favorite part about my new found love for matcha is that it’s full of antioxidants and has functional health benefits too good to pass up. Alongside caffeine, L-theanine is found in matcha, which can create a calming energy without that annoying midday crash. So we’re talking sustained energy, an increase in focus and attention, and you just feel pretty zen yet awake when sipping on a cup of matcha. If you’re a little too sensitive to caffeine, matcha is an option worth trying since it contains much less caffeine than usually found in coffee.
You know how little kids may avoid vegetables due to their green color? That’s how I felt about matcha before implementing it into my morning routine. I was extremely surprised to find out that Jade Leaf Matcha’s organic ceremonial matcha had a super smooth yet rich flavor I couldn’t get enough of. It’s made with a premium blend of tea leaves, which gives it an exceptionally smooth flavor profile that tasted really lovely both hot and over ice — I’m a cold beverage girl through and through, but I did enjoy a nice warm cup of matcha here and there.
When my Matcha Starter Set and matcha arrived, I was surprised by how much information Jade Leaf provides for their consumers. A booklet included details about the history of matcha and provided instructions on how to make different variations of matcha as well as food recipes that include matcha as an ingredient. This made crafting my first cup of matcha pretty seamless, as the process can look quite daunting for beginner at-home baristas.
After looking over the contents of the starter set —the electric whisk, stainless steel scoop, and stainless steel tea sifter, I opened up the Organic Ceremonial Matcha, Teahouse Edition and emptied the contents into the container. It’s kept in a separate bag to maintain its flavor and freshness before you receive it. Next, it was time to make some matcha!
I followed the step by step modern preparation guide and started by taking the stainless steel tea shifter and placing it over a mug. This made the process super smooth because I didn’t have to worry that I’d be sipping on my matcha later and having it taste grainy. I opted for a matcha latte, a yummy replacement of my vanilla latte.
Then, I used the stainless steel scoop to get ½ teaspoon of matcha from the container. I poured it on top of the sifter to eliminate any clumps in the glass and used the scoop to sift the matcha down into the mug.
Next, I poured 2oz of cool water into the mug before tilting it towards me and using the electric whisk frother to mix the matcha for about 10 seconds, until smooth froth started to form. The preparation guide suggests making sure the tip is submerged before turning on the whisk to avoid any splashes.
After 10 seconds, I poured in 6oz of milk to make it a latte. You could also just add in water. Remember, if you like more flavor, you’ll want to add less water or milk.
Each time I made a glass of matcha, it felt like a relaxing experience I ended up looking forward to in the morning. It became a ritual that was not only tasty, but benefited my entire body for an anxiety-free boost of energy to get through each day.
Do you love the morning ritual of a warm or iced caffeinated beverage but hate the jitters from coffee? You won’t regret trying out Jade Leaf Matcha.
