Hacks is one of those shows that’s had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the newest season to roll out, and that time has finally arrived. Past seasons swept at awards season, and as funny and well-cast as it is, the wardrobe department deserves its fair shake of appreciation, too. With two wildly opposite characters who have two very different fashion tastes, there’s a lot to love, and this latest season is sure to have lots in store for us this time around.
As we gear up for season three, let’s take a look back at some of the more iconic looks thus far on Hacks in seasons one and two.

Signature Deborah Vance Looks: Season One
When we meet the star of the show, comedian Deborah Vance, in season one, we quickly discover she’s a solid reflection of the Vegas culture she’s lived in for the past several decades: Lots of glamour and glitz, largely through the use of sequins, rhinestones, and lux fabrics like silk, satin, and cashmere.
The gold suit
One of Vance’s signature looks from this first season is the gold sequin suit, complete with matching pants. This is one of her “showtime” outfits where she’s headed on-stage to do a set. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly version of this showstopping blazer that will help you re-create this look, consider the gold faux leather jacket in alligator print from Express ($89.95), or, if you’re like Vance and money is no option, go all out for the Tom Ford metallic tweed blazer ($4,490).
The flowy kimonos
On off days when she’s not doing a performance, Vance often opts for long, ornate kimonos (often paired with statement jewelry and flowy, high-quality basics.) Kimonos are a great way to dress up a simple outfit, so if you’re looking to up your own kimono game to wear out or just at home, there are lots of great options. Wolf and Badger has the “Hollywood and Vine” kimono in pink ($148), while you can find a lovely light blue one from Aqua Bendita ($280) at Revolve.
Signature Ava Daniels Looks: Season One
Ava Daniels is a young writer who comes along to help Vance with new jokes to spice up her standup sets, and her character relies on simple, casual outfits for everyday wear. While many of the pieces we see on Ava this season are vintage, you can tap into her cool girl, no-frills fashion sense with a few core pieces.
The Casual Basics
One of Ava’s go-to outfits is a pair of Levis 501 straight black jeans ($80), paired with a black, raw-edge jean jacket (like this one from L’Agence for $335), basic tanks like the 90’s scoop neck ones at Abercrombie ($45 for two), topped off with a pair of Nike Waffle Debut Vintage sneakers ($80.) These are reliable staples for any closet that you can mix-and-match or layer to achieve different casual looks.
The Alternative/Vintage Look
The other look we can rely on Ava’s character for in season one is a grungy, alternative-style outfit that has a bit of vintage tied in. In the first episode, we see her in a pair of cropped plaid pants (like this pair from Brixton for $89) and a slate gray t-shirt, similar in style and cut to the perfect vintage tee from Madewell ($30). She caps this off with a brown vintage bag and a pair of combat boots for a simple, comfortable outfit.
Signature Deborah Vance Looks: Season Two
In season two of Hacks, Deborah and Ava hit the road and leave Vegas to start testing new material in different markets across the US.
Prints on prints
Deborah’s travel clothes are less glittery, but no less statement-making. Take this leopard-on-leopard combo, for example. A bold choice, sure. If you’re feeling up to pairing patterns, check out the Leopard print button down from Vici ($44) paired with a leopard print kimono, like this one from Show Me Your Mumu ($98).
Silk and patterns
Season two’s wardrobe for Deborah is more casual, but retains some of its glamor. Keeping the theme of prints going, we often see her in silk shirts and patterned bags, similar to the Las Suernas silk button down ($490) and the Ella printed tote from Tory Burch ($228). Take note, however: If you’re going to live large like she does, you better be willing to spend some money on your ensembles (even for casual days.)
Signature Ava Daniels Looks: Season Two
The dress
If you saw season two of Hacks, you know what I’m referring to when I say “the dress.” While Deborah and Ava are on the road testing new material, they stop for a shopping trip, and Deborah makes Ava try on a dress she picks out (which Ava hates, but Deborah loves and ultimately buys for her.) The original Alice + Olivia tweed dress from the show is sold out online, but there’s a solid backup in the Lachlan Boucle Tweed Mini Dress ($495) from the same brand. Pair it with Ava’s signature Dr. Martens combat boots ($170), and you’re all set.
The bikini
For reasons we can’t share without giving some of the plotline away, we’ll just say that Ava finds herself in season two wearing a swimsuit on several different occasions. In one scene, Deborah teaches her how to float, and we see the five-stripe bikini from Aviator Nation in the high-waisted bottoms ($129) and a top similar to this one ($112) from the same brand. The bikini top also serves as a summer crop top of sorts she wears under an unbuttoned short-sleeve shirt while they’re out on the road.

What’s in store for the wardrobe in Hacks Season 3?
The promotional images ahead of the season three release don’t provide a whole lot of clues about what looks Deborah and Ava will lean into in the newest season, but it is clear that the sparkles will be back, and so will Ava’s casual basics. If you’re on the hunt for a show-stopping dress like the one Deborah is wearing in this teaser shot, consider the Syd maxi dress from Revolve ($248).
