Immediately after hearing about the goals we should set for the New Year, we are met with an onslaught of red and pink, signaling the start of Valentine’s Day marketing. From the Instagram ads for jewelry and chocolates to the ten newly released rom-coms, it can feel like there is no escape.
For some, Valentine’s day can feel like you are being bombarded at every turn reminding you that you are, in fact, still single. Take it from someone who has spent every Valentine’s Day of her 28-years solo: this love-themed holiday can be less than ideal.
Enter Galentine’s Day – historically celebrated on February 13th, this holiday is meant to hype up all the single ladies out there. Whether you are taking the day to yourself to rest and recharge, going out with your girl gang for a fun night out, or protecting your fellow singles out there from the West Elm Calebs of the world – this is your day.
Rested & Relaxed:
This year, Galentine’s Day happens to fall on a Sunday, which is one of my favorite days of the week because it is ideal for a lazy day itinerary. Growing up, my mother actually called Sundays my “pajama days” because I literally would not change out of my favorite Gisele Shortie Short PJ Set from Eberjey ($98) while I cuddled with my dog, dove into a new book series, or continued to binge whatever new show I had become obsessed with.
Recently, I have been re-reading The Selection Series by Kiera Cass. One of my favorite young adult series, I always describe this trilogy as ‘The Hunger Games’ meets ‘The Bachelor.’ An easy read, and quite addicting, this series is actually set to be adapted by Netflix.
If you are in need of an extra dash of cozy, look no further than Deux’s new limited-edition Cookies & Cream flavor ($16). Packed with large chunks of chocolate, this vegan and gluten-free cookie dough is enhanced with Reishi & Ginseng for a little extra mood boost. Wrapped in my Waffle Robe from Parachute ($129), this is a Sunday I wish would never end.
Cozy, Yet Casual:
In my opinion, there is no better way to celebrate Galentine’s Day than with your best friends. Regardless of if your friends are in a relationship or not, Galentine’s Day is all about loving the women in your life and showing them just how much they mean to you.
In thrifted, vintage crystal Gatsby glasses from Etsy, we pour our sparkling Nomadica wine curated by a talented sommelier. One of my favorites, Nomadica’s Sparkling White (from $58), is a blend of chardonnay with a touch of muscat to evoke lively notes of citrus, hints of nectarine and a whisper of melon.
To bring the movie theater experience to your own home, consider a bluetooth projector. At varying price points, there are various projectors that can connect to your laptop or phone to give you a theatrical view of the latest movies and shows.
Simple & Stylish:
If you and your girl gang are looking to brave the cold and venture out for a fun night out, simple and stylish is the way to go. Fashion is a woman’s armor, but the key to dressing on-theme is to keep it sophisticated.
Hues of red and pink can be naturally feminine, but combined with the elegant styles and silhouettes from CAMI make for the perfect battle gear. Effortless yet elevated, CAMI has grown to be one of my go-to shopping destinations for versatile wardrobe essentials. For a round of drinks at happy hour, and enough pasta to go around, I will be wearing a 100% silk camisole ($195) along with a Davney Sweater Magnolia ($199 on final sale).
An outfit just isn’t complete without the perfect accessories. Invest in a few versatile staples from an influencer-favorite, Loeffler Randall. The brand’s Natalia Rose Platform Bow Heel ($450) comes in a stunning metallic rose tone that is perfect to celebrate Galentine’s Day. If you are looking for something a bit more versatile, these heels also come in a variety of vibrant hues and muted neutrals.
I am not the one for over-the-top jewelry, so I typically stick to classic and timeless pieces. Almost everyday, despite the occasion, I wear my Venice Necklace from Gorjana ($70). It’s a simple staple, but also perfect for layering. For something more trendy, freshwater pearls are having a moment and Joey Baby NYC has beautiful, handmade jewelry to show off your personality.
Not that we need a reason to blast Beyoncé and celebrate all the single ladies out there, but I will admit it is nice to have a day all to ourselves. Whether your plans are to stay in or head out with your girlfriends, you can’t go wrong no matter how you show your crew that you love them.
