My husband and I are practical parents – maybe to a fault. For example, we do 3 presents at the holidays: one thing to wear, one thing you need, and one thing to read. There’s nothing wrong with going big on celebrations, especially Easter! I love Easter, all it represents, and the celebrations alongside it. But I like to get a little more creative than simply loading my littles up on chocolate.

If you’re a practical parent trying to eliminate the crap in your house, join me on this ride as we explore practical (yet fun) Easter basket ideas for kids of all ages.

For The Baby

We have a 3-month-old, and while the practical in me says he doesn’t need an Easter basket, the mom in me responds, “Oh yes, he does!” For his basket, I’ll be doing a Plant Print Sensory Strip ($38) from Etta Loves to help with tummy time and to boost his eyesight. I recently made an Artifact Uprising custom Baby Board Book ($39) (hey, there's the something to read!), which helps babies develop recognition of their most important people. It came out so beautifully, and I know we’ll have it for a long, long time.

Dreamland’s Easter Collection Weighted Sleep Sack ($89) also stuck out to me in my shopping. With two adorable prints, it’s the perfect time to stock up on these famous sleep sacks. Our baby sleeps in one every night, so both mom and baby alike will love this part of his basket. As for the basket itself, I can’t resist the soft cuteness of this Pottery Barn Kids Long-Eared Bunny Basket ($38). Something about it just feels like the perfect baby basket.

For The Toddler

Isn’t this bunny smock just the cutest (and most practical) thing? Credit: Lalo

Our house also has a very busy toddler, who loves all things adventure and food! For him, I’m going for these Daily Harvest Pops ($9.99), which secretly include a whole bunch of fruits and veggies in a delish popsicle format that he’ll love. He’s also constantly stealing our sunglasses, so we’re getting him a pair of his own from Babiators. Their Sweet Cream Keyhole ($34) frame is just adorable on the website and I can’t wait to see it on our son. Pehr’s Park Jacket ($110) is also an adorable spring grab that I’ll be tossing in the Easter basket for future rainy, puddle-jumping days.

On a slightly less practical note, this Goose ($29.99) from Warmies is too cute. We use our Warmies animals for boo-boos and sick days, as you’re able to heat them up for pain management. Keeping with the animal theme (because what toddler doesn’t love animals?), Lalo’s limited-edition Bunny Smock ($29.50) is sure to be a hit. I know my son’s reaction will be “hop hop,” both to the smock and this sweet Anthropologie Bunny Easter Basket ($26).

For The School-Aged Kid

While we don’t have a school-aged kid yet, I have some close friends who do, so I feel like I have a pretty good sense of what these guys and gals like. One thing you can’t go wrong with, of course, is toys – the universal language of kids! I love this pastel Magnetic Tile 64-piece Starter Pack ($145) from Connetix. Beyond hours of fun, it’ll inspire creativity and problem-solving… bonus! Grove Co. also has these super-cute, on-theme Bath Bomb Eggs ($13.99) that are sure to make bath time a hit. Simply drop one in, let it fizz, and be the coolest parent to walk the planet. I mean… they’re not teens yet, right? We gotta soak that in.

Another favorite brand of mine, Waterdrop, has this cute Steel Water Bottle ($33) that is available in a variety of colors. For their “something to read,” try this Custom “Where Are You?” Book ($39.99) from Wonderbly. Think of it as a personalized, modern “Where’s Waldo?” For all of these wonderful toys and books, you’re going to need a good-sized basket to hold it all. This one ($35) from Maisonette feels like the right size and cuteness, but without being too “baby-ish.” For a bit of a sweet treat, I’m opting for LesserEvil’s Sugar Cookie Popcorn ($5.49). It is sweet, without being overpoweringly-so, and is made with better-for-you ingredients. It’s a win for your kiddo’s sweet tooth – and for you as a parent!

For Yourself

Listen… you’ve gone through a lot of trouble already to get the perfect basket organized, perfect the holiday outfits, and tailor the plans accordingly. You also deserve a treat or two! This Easter, I’ll be treating myself to  the Brümate Era 40 oz Tumbler ($44.99). I never got on the Stanley train, but this one feels like a necessary ugrapde to my mom life, especially because it stays cold for 24 hours and fits in car cup holders! I’ll also be restocking my All Bright C Serum ($90) from Beautycounter. It looks very Easter-y (almost like a Peep, no?), but I love this stuff all year round. If all of this shopping has you feeling like you need a bit of caffeinating, might we suggest Pop & Bottle’s new iced coffee launch (prices vary). Simple, delicious, and available in stores everywhere, you can find me hitting this all Easter season long – and beyond!

Hoppy Shopping, Parents

While chocolate bunnies are a blast for about 2 minutes in our house, the sugar high and the weeks-on-end of nibbling are so not worth it. However you celebrate, we hope this little guide to practical Easter baskets was helpful. Happy (practical) Easter, parents!
