Another week, another Cariuma collab – and this one’s pretty wild. The ethical sneaker brand has partnered with National Geographic in celebration of two species tied to the Cariuma spirit: the Madagascar Gecko and the Green Turtle. Beginning today, you can shop five of Cariuma’s signature styles (including the classic OCA Low/Highs) adorned with rad little creatures peeking out from NatGeo’s signature square logo.
A colorful, insect- and-fruit-favoring reptile, the Madagascar Gecko recognizes the simple pleasures in life: fruits, bugs, and a lush forest canopy. It’s a rare species native to the eastern forests of Mozambique’s island neighbor. The Green Turtle is the world’s largest sea turtle and resident of over 80 countries across the world. An endangered species, the Green Turtle is responsible for the ongoing health of seagrass and its microhabitats, as it promotes the growth of this underwater plant through grazing habits.
Both creatures are important to Cariuma, a brand of surfers, skaters, and explorers that recognizes its responsibility to protect the planet. As such, each pair of NatGeo x Cariuma sneakers is made with the brand’s signature certified organic cotton, sustainably sourced rubber, cork, mamona oil, and recycled plastics. Beyond that, every purchase both helps support the global nonprofit National Geographic Society – and, of course, Cariuma will plant two trees in the Brazilian rainforest for every pair of sneakers sold.
Yes, these sneakers do a lot of good. They look good, too. A limited-edition collab, they’re sure to sell out quickly, so snag a pair while you can. They’re available at cariuma.com for $89-$100 depending on the style you choose.
