These Paris Olympics 2024 Collaborations Are Practically Time Capsule-Worthy

The Fourth of July doesn’t do much for me. Sure, I love a stacked burger on the grill and rocking a red bikini on a beach somewhere with a beer in my hand, but even as a history major, the holiday doesn’t get me shouting “USA!” or sporting star-spangled bandanas.

The Olympics, on the other hand, really do.

Psychological tests tell me that “appreciation of beauty and excellence” is one of my most dominant traits, so it’s no surprise that watching American (and really, all) athletes at their prime reduces me to a puddle of tears. Watching Simone Biles sprint towards the vault in a bedazzled leotard. Rooting for Katie Ledecky, the only visible swimmer on screen because she’s so far ahead of the competition. Douse me in red, white, and blue, baby.

Brands and advertising agencies of course have their own competition leading up to Paris. Ahead of the Opening Ceremony this Saturday, July 26, companies clamor to sponsor athletes, inject must-have products into their lifestyles, or release limited-edition capsule collections to immortalize the moment.

From patriotic apparel to uniform designs, some of our favorite brands have stepped up (to the podium perhaps?) to prove they’re the best of the best, competing to be elite across comfort, style, athletic utility, and more. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most buzz-worthy releases.

Left on Friday Excels in Bright Athletic Gear—and Designed Some Seriously Attractive Beach Volleyball Uniforms

First up, Left on Friday has always been on my radar. I live in a beach town after all. A reliable brand producing swimsuits in attractive silhouettes and gorgeous colors is shockingly rare, so I appreciate Left on Friday’s consistency and aesthetic. With consistency such a core tenet of the Olympic Games, it made immediate sense to me that Left on Friday is the vendor responsible for the Canadian National Team’s Olympic uniforms—which they’ve sported throughout the 2024 season.

For those of us not diving into the sand, Left on Friday offers up a collection of comfortable, bright basics to wear while cheering on your favorite team (a consolation to its American shoppers who might be saying, “Wait, they’re Canadian?”). The Super Fan collection includes vibrant rugby shirts designed in collaboration with Barbarian. I snagged the unisex League Shirt, which I’ll undoubtedly be wearing nonstop over the next three weeks and beyond. Those who adore cheeky Pinterest-inspired t-shirts and hats will love this straightforward Super Fan hat too. Naturally, the collection also includes an array of vibrant activewear options like bra tops and biker shorts, which go neatly with any of the limited-edition items.

J. Crew Paired with USA Swimming for a Timeless Collection of Basics

Uh oh, y’all. Shortly after launching, this J.Crew and USA Swimming collection pretty much sold out. J.Crew absolutely nailed its target audience with a sleek collection of sporty, timeless inspired by 90’s nostalgia. The bomber jacket instantly sold out (as expected), and I’m extremely jealous of anyone who snagged this funky look, but the collection’s still going strong with an embroidered bucket hat, fleece shorts, and more. Each item makes me envision climbing out of the pool after a long workout and immediately getting cozy—vicarious living, minus the world records. Each sale also supports the USA Swimming Foundation, which aims to improve access to swimming lessons.

Skims Revamps Tighty-Whities, USA-Style

Skims kept it simple with its Olympics and Paralympics collaborations this year, but luckily, Skims does simple well. Focused on white-based basics with choice Team USA logo inclusion, the line includes undies, bodysuits, tanks, tees, and swimwear. With prices hovering around $14 for socks and $148 at the highest for a robe, the collection offers an entry point to patriotic apparel without a hefty tag to match. I’m thinking this t-shirt mini dress splashed with the flag and Olympics rings could be a very nice selection to drag out every four years for watch parties—except I’m sure Skims’s 2028 Olympics collection will have plenty worth buying too.

One aspect I appreciate about Free People’s Olympics-inspired Americana collection is that it not only offers up limited-edition items, but populates its pages with existing products that would style nicely with any statement pick. For example, I actually rented the We The Free Firecracker Jeans from Nuuly last month as part of a cowboy-inspired style kick I’m on. Free People knows how to toe the line between unique and rockable. Its Americana curation includes the dreamy, the sporty, the cozy, and the basic, allowing any shopper to find an outfit worth wearing to cheer on their favorite event. I want to radiate cool-girl energy in the dually striped Sawyer Tee, and this textured Miss Americana tank is just visually dissonant enough to make me obsess. Most of all, I’d definitely consider purchasing this ultra-functional colorblock windbreaker splashed with PARIS 2024 across the back.

Since the Olympics run way ahead of my time zone, I spend most of the two weeks of events curled up on my couch working, with the games on in the background—so I’m probably in sweats, drinking my coffee, making armchair-spectator comments like “Oh, she could have made up those point-two seconds if she’d tightened her posture a bit more.” Needless to say, I’m a hypocrite, but boy-oh-boy do I relish being a festive one.

Known for its supersoft blankets, sweaters, and other home goods, Barefoot Dreams just became even more collectible with its Team USA collection. The capsule includes items like a flag-adorned dog bed, wearable flag-inspired blanket poncho, and a sweater throw that looks like it belongs in a cottage on Cape Cod (complimentary.) Needless to say, I need to have each of them available in my viewing environment for the optimal Olympics-watching experience.

Admittedly, when I started hunting for my favorite Olympics-inspired apparel, I wasn’t expecting to see sundresses on the list. Rugby shirts, sure. That’s a given. I was also not expecting to see…pink. Logically, it makes sense as the middle ground between red and white, but I’m used to each collection sticking firmly to the triad of flag colors. There’s even some purple in the mix.

But Suni Lee, Gold medalist in the women’s all-around during the 2020 Olympics, went remarkably subtle with this Cotton x LoveShack Fancy capsule collection, aiming for comfort instead of in-your-face patriotism. Its gingham prints, feminine silhouettes, and airy skirts feel more cottagecore than anything else—but that’s precisely why it may be one of the most wearable collections emerging from this year’s events. It’s oddly refreshing. Personally, I’m eyeing a mini skirt with a gentle hand-painted star print, or perhaps this delicate eyelet white tank.

Montblanc Honored Its 100-Year History with Giftable Olympic-Branded Writing Instruments

French luxury brand Montblanc released its cult-favorite Meisterstück pen a hundred years ago, right after Paris hosted the Olympic Games in 1924. This year, to honor the centennial anniversary, Montblanc released a limited-edition line of engraved and personalizable pens inspired by the spirit of the games: the Olympic Heritage collection.

Obviously, Ralph Lauren Had to Stake Its Claim as the Official Team USA Outfitter

You might have resigned your own Olympic dreams at age seven, when you were told you’d be far, far too tall to ever actually be a gymnast. (Just me? Okay.) But you can still dress up like each athlete stepping into the arena because Team USA’s official Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony garb are available for purchase directly from Ralph Lauren. Tasteful piped lining and stripes define this collection, with thoughtfully placed flags you could absolutely get away with wearing normally. Too shy to go all in? Not everything is branded, even when included into the collection. Opt for the official light-washed jeans or other timeless essentials worn by the American team. Personally, I’m also kind of loving this collectible mug.

My mom has now-vintage merch from Atlanta’s 1996 Olympics, including toddler-sized tees that have been passed down to my niece and nephew. I’ve always been jealous. While I can’t go back in time to scoop authentic Olympics souvenirs, Abercrombie & Fitch released a line of nostalgic t-shirts and sweatshirts that honor previous Games and cities—including a design similar to my mom’s.

Wading through deals and collaborations to find the best can be a challenge, so we just have one more question for the Olympics Committee: when will you add shopping to the list of sports?
