Is it normal to feel bloated after every meal? For a long time, I thought so. I’ve had a sensitive stomach since I was a kid, so discomfort and gas were pretty much my baseline. I tried a few different diets with varying degrees of success and ultimately landed on dealing with it.

But, over the past few months, I’ve noticed several ‘debloating’ supplements popping up in the market, and I put off trying them until I kept hearing about two. With nothing to lose (except my near-constant indigestion) I launched this throwdown, featuring Organic Olivia’s Bloat BFF and Lemme’s Lemme Debloat Gummies. I was shocked to find that one of these products *actually* made a huge difference post-meal time – read on for my winner!

The Players

Organic Olivia Bloat BFF: Founded by herbalist Olivia Amitrano, Organic Olivia offers natural and herbal remedies including supplements, tinctures, teas, and skincare products. The brand emphasizes holistic health and wellness, focusing on traditional herbs and ingredients to support various aspects of health. In this throwdown, I’ll be writing about the brand’s Bloat BFF product, which is a capsule that you can take 1-3 times each day.

Lemme Debloat: Brainchild of Kourtney Kardashian, Lemme offers a range of wellness gummies and supplements focusing on everything from energy to sleep and stress management. The brand emphasizes taste in addition to efficacy, and below I’ll be writing about its Lemme Debloat Gummies.

Benefits and Uses

Bloat BFF: Designed to reduce bloating and discomfort, Bloat BFF provides support for constipation, slow motility, and digestion of common food triggers; aids protein and carbohydrate breakdown and a healthy gut inflammatory response; and promotes gut microbiome balance. Plus, it’s SIBO-safe and fast-acting for quick relief. The biggest thing that jumps out to me about this list is that it acknowledges both root causes and symptoms. It’s not just a bandaid, but also addresses what’s going on in your digestive system. Education is really important to the brand, and I appreciate that Organic Olivia’s website clues me into what exactly it’s doing (or helping my insides do for themselves).

Lemme Debloat: The Lemme list is much broader. Debloat was formulated to help: bloating, digestion, gut health and occasional gas. This feels particularly general compared to Bloat BFF’s benefits, but I could use help in all of these departments, so I’ll hold my judgments for now.

Ingredients

Bloat BFF: This formula is a blend of herbs and two specific enzymes that help with digestion and reduce gas, in addition to a clinically studied spore-forming probiotic strain that's been shown to improve symptoms. Instead of just using herbs or enzymes on their own, this mix takes a multi-pronged approach to tackle all four factors that cause bloating and discomfort (maldigestion of carbohydrates and protein, gut microbiome imbalances, slow gut motility, and food triggers). Bloating affects everyone differently, and it’s so smart that this blend has all departments covered: soothing herbs, fast-acting enzymes, and probiotics that support your microbiome.

Lemme Debloat: Each gummy contains LACTOSPORE® (BACILLUS COAGULANS), a patented probiotic that’s been clinically-studied to support bloating, digestion, occasional gas relief and overall gut health; DE111® (BACILLUS SUBTILIS), a clinically-studied probiotic that supports immune system health and a healthy gut microbiome; and XOS, which supports beneficial bacteria growth. The ingredient list gets a bit hairier from there, though:  Tapioca Syrup, Organic Cane Sugar, Pectin, Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT), plus less than 2% of Carnauba Wax, Citric Acid, Fruit and Vegetable Juice (Color), Natural Blackberry Flavor, Rice Flour, Sodium Malate (Pecmate), Sunflower Lecithin. The added sugar is a real kicker…

Quality

Bloat BFF: When it comes to quality, the brand covers every base. All formulas are individually tested and have COA’s available, and in order to source the healthiest, most potent plants possible, Organic Olivia starts with whole herbs and then grinds them in-house. They not only confirm the plant species through traditional identification methods (organoleptics) – they also perform routine DNA testing and gas chromatography to ensure proper levels of active constituents. Additionally, raw plant material is meticulously tested for microbes, metals and pollutants. Dive into all the details here.

Lemme Debloat: The brand uses clinically-studied ingredients, backed by science. Lemme prides itself on ‘clean’ formulas, meaning they’re gluten-free and non GMO, no high fructose corn syrup, dye-free, vegan and dairy-free, and use no artificial sweeteners or synthetic colors. To be totally honest, these pride points feel pretty obvious – while they may be applause-worthy compared to other brands on the market, they feel extremely general and pale in comparison to the measures Organic Olivia takes to create a top-tier product.

Efficacy

Bloat BFF: This product has an average of 4.9 stars and reviews like “It’s like magic!”, “This SERIOUSLY works!”, “Instant relief!!!” so I was excited to try it – but I also know that my stomach is particularly sensitive. I first tried it before eating a lentil dish, as legumes are particularly tough for me – and I felt as normal after eating them as I had before. I waited several hours for something (anything!) to happen, and in this scenario, the best thing I can say is that absolutely nothing did. I now take it ahead of eating tricky-to-digest foods, and I’ve also tried it before larger meals as it alleviates that heavy, uncomfortably-full feeling. I’m pretty jazzed about it (my post meal gassiness was one of my biggest insecurities!) – it’s easy to take (1-3 pills daily) and has really helped both my physical and emotional discomfort. The gassy girls get it!

Lemme: The Debloat Gummies taste delicious (they’re Blackberry flavored) – and, who doesn't like taking gummies? The only thing is that I’m not totally sure they do anything. I’d previously read online that many of Lemme’s products don’t have high enough doses of their active ingredients, so I’m not sure if that’s the case here. Another theory? While the ingredients used in this product have been clinically studied, the result when all of these ingredients are combined (aka the product itself) hasn’t actually been studied. My theory? I tried Organic Olivia first, and it was so impactful that Lemme simply paled in comparison. Perhaps it helps people with milder bloating, but after trying a product that actually works, I couldn’t get excited (or really even notice) such a marginal improvement.

Cost

Bloat BFF: 30 of these capsules cost $39. Potent, high-quality ingredients are expensive!

Lemme: One bottle of 60 gummies costs $30. It’s worth noting that one ‘dose’ is 2 gummies, so Lemme is still cheaper than Organic Olivia, but not by as much as it initially seems.

Overall Winner: Organic Olivia Bloat BFF

If you’re in the market for serious results, I highly recommend skipping straight to the potent stuff and opting for Bloat BFF. Over the years I’ve tried a lot of diets, supplements and powders for my chronic stomach issues, and this product has absolutely been the most impressive. I guess that’s what happens when you leave things in the hands of an herbalist who’s bridging the gap between the gifts of Western medicine and the wisdom of traditional herbalism!

Olivia’s story is so compelling (check out our full interview with her here), and I’ve heard her other best-sellers like GlucoBitters, Liver Juice and Mane Magic are the real deal (Annie walks you through trying those here). I love the concept of holistic health – and I’m enjoying reaping its benefits tremendously.
