Happy Lunar New Year! We are in the year of the Dragon, which is the It Girl zodiac symbol associated with charm, luck, and success. As someone born in the year of the rooster I feel snubbed (roosters are considered picky and aggressive–not wrong, but still) so I envy anyone who can claim dragon. Dragon status is so desirable that parents have been known to family plan around dragon years so their kids reap the gifts of the creature’s nature.
It’s not just any dragon year – 2024 is a wood dragon specifically. In addition to the baseline dragon traits (confidence, leadership) the wood incarnation speaks to improvement, abundance, and rejuvenation. Regardless of whether or not I believe in zodiac signs, I am leaning into this excessively positive forecast for 2024. To celebrate LNY, check out our AAPI-centric guide below that includes a dragon-themed necklace and a Lip Milk that walked the Emmy red carpet.
This limited edition necklace will keep the lucky energy of the dragon year close to your chest. The embossed dragon design is elevated with two sparkling blue zircons and 18K gold plating.

Founder David Yi describes this hydrating lip milk as a toner for lips — a first-step product that goes on before the rest of your lip routine. The drenching formula includes vitamin b5, vegan collagen, cupuacu and mango butters, as well as fruit extracts galore. Yi says this lip milk is not an occlusive (like a gloss, balm, or petroleum jelly) so you can feel free to layer it beneath other products.

It might take a (petite) leap of faith to take laminating into your own hands, but the results will speak for themselves. Instead of a $90+ appointment to get your brows done, try this DIY kit that includes everything you need for fuller-looking brows.

While Lunar New Year might not immediately make you think of Spanish-cured meats, maybe that means it’s time to start a new tradition. This bundle from AAPI-founded Mercado Famous serves four people with six packs (chorizo, lomo, salchichón, and three types of jamon) of Spanish-sourced, artisan-produced meats.

New year, new skin — or at least a renewed commitment to skincare. From the makers of my favorite sunscreen (shoutout to its genius packaging so you can get literally every last drop), comes this set of essentials to kick off the year glowing. Each product harnesses the power of rice bran extract to hydrate, brighten, and soothe skin.

New Year will always mean glitter to me. These slides from Alterre are gorgeous on their own, but take advantage of the brand’s customizable design and throw on a strap to make them really sparkle. My favorite add-on is the Elsie strap ($55) for a more formal and flapper-y look. If you want to tone down the glitter, the Twiggy strap ($45) keeps it more low-key.

To all book clubs voting on what to read next, consider this darkly funny book about just what the title says: a fetishist (namely, a white guy who keeps dating Asian musicians).

A rabbit might feel like the opposite of a dragon, but a fluffy (faux fur) bag in beautifully marbled hues is its own form of luck.
