I Broke Up With My Lash Salon After A Terrible Reaction. Here’s How I Do My Lashes Now.

Lashes have always been my thing. As long as they’re looking long and fluttery, I feel unstoppable. Over the years I’ve achieved them a number of ways: dramatic mascara, falsies, and salon extensions. And then I had a really scary reaction at a new salon! I took to Reddit to find a safer alternative and emerged with Lilac St., an at-home lash brand that promises to look flawless with less maintenance. After trying these lashes, I broke up with salons for good. Here’s why I haven’t looked back…

Safer Application

As it turns out, I’m not the only person who’s had a bad reaction to salon lashes – the glue salons use can be really dangerous! As they’re drying, their vapors can cause burning and itching, and allergic reactions in or around the eyes is pretty common. Lilac St. prioritizes safety with its cruelty-free, vegan and eye-safe glue. It’s safer, and that’s a huge relief.

Look Just As Gorgeous

I’ll let the photos do most of the talking here. There’s not a ton I can say to capture how floored I am every time I look in the mirror and realize I accomplished this…by myself? I get compliments all the time (not to brag 💅), and I can’t count the number of jaws I’ve seen drop when I tell them they’re at home lash extensions.

Easier To Maintain

Lilac St. lashes last me a good ten days upon application, so they don’t last as long as salon lashes, but I actually prefer having control over when I take these lashes off. It’s nice not to be dependent on an esthetician and perfectly-thought-out schedule to achieve the look I’m going for. And, when they’re on, they stay on: I swim, run, and sleep in them with no problems whatsoever!

More Convenient

I found the hour spent in the salon excruciating, mainly because the technician gently tapes my eyes shut as she applies extensions to each real lash – and that freaks me out. At home, I can apply my own lashes in ten quick minutes. The process includes cleaning my lashes, applying the glue, adhering the lashes to my waterline, then fusing and sealing them. Whatever frustration you’re envisioning – cut it in half – it’s that easy!

Spend Less Money

The Deluxe Starter Kit is $65 ($65!!), and each set of lashes costs $11. That is so much less than the initial $250 I paid, and then the ~$100/month for a fill at a salon. Plus, Lilac St. offers a subscription that will save you up to 45% on lashes, plus 25% on accessories. If you join now, you’re also eligible for a Welcome Kit, which has $42 in free accessories.
