Pregnancy PSA: These Lifesavers Helped With My Back Pain, Leg Cramps & Swelling

One of the hardest parts of being pregnant is simply just being. Your body changes in so many ways, and figuring out how to relax – and get comfortable – can be a taller order than you’d expect. I had honestly forgotten what it’s like, but my second go around has quickly reminded me what a changing body feels like – much less a changing body that has a little one to tote and chase around, too! Thankfully I’ve found a few superhero products that have made a world of difference. While I won’t say they’ve made my second pregnancy easy, they’ve certainly made it easier – and that, my friends, is no small feat. Here, meet the Hyperice lineup that’s keeping me movin’ and groovin’ through lower back pain, leg cramps, swelling and more…

Lower Back Pain

I’ve had lower back pain for longer than I’ve been showing. At the beginning of my pregnancy, it was due to relaxin, the hormone that prepares the body for childbirth by loosening up your ligaments (unfortunately, that manifested in a weakened pelvis, and therefore back pain, from early on). Then, later on in my pregnancy, my growing bump and changing center of gravity led to even more back pain. Thankfully I've had the support of Hyperice’s Venom 2 Back every step of the way. The most advanced heat and massage wrap on the market, it heats up 6x faster than a standard heating pad – the sort of sweet and swift relief any pregnant mama craves.

Leg Cramps

With an increase of blood volume to support your growing little one comes changes in circulation, which can lead to all sorts of issues – including leg cramps. I received Hyperice’s Normatec 3 Legs as a gift this time around, and it was hands down the best gift I didn’t even know to ask for! These legs tap into the power of compression for an out-of-this-world massage. I zip into mine as I’m winding down for the night, and it’s absolutely the most relaxing part of my day. I hear they’re great for training too, so they’re a gift that will keep on giving once I’m back to training postpartum.

Swelling and Edema

It’s crazy and pretty amazing how when you’re pregnant, you really just pop one day. The swelling that comes along with it? Not so much. The Hypervolt Go 2 is the only massage gun I’ve found that’s actually a match for these legs, feet and ankles. I love how portable it is: it weighs in at an impressive 1.5 pounds but maintains the ability to massage away tension and loosen muscles like the much bulkier options on the market.

Postpartum and Beyond

While giving birth alleviates the aches and pains of pregnancy, postpartum and breastfeeding usher in a host of other discomforts – and I’m relying on my Hyperice products for those too. That’s the beauty of investing in high quality things: they’re designed to last! Whether it’s the neck pain that comes with nursing or the sore legs I’m anticipating once I start running again, I’m looking forward to using my Hyperice products for recovery and relief. Second-time moms know you learn a lot the first time around, and this is the sort of upgrade I wish someone had shared with me sooner.
