We like
We don't like
There’s nothing better than truly feeling at home in your home, but getting there is easier said than done. Decorating a space is hard work – and there’s a lot to consider:
How can I infuse personality into my space? What’s the proper ratio between neutrals and pops-of-color? Which pieces are worth investing in – and where can I save? What textures and designs are timeless, and what will date my space? The list goes on. And on, and on.
These are questions we all ask ourselves, and luckily, many great brands are now answering them. Rugs have traditionally been really difficult to nail (if you’ve ever shopped for one, you’ll know they’re often outrageously expensive, tedious to clean, and uninspiring in design) – but Tumble has emerged as an incredible option.
The brand offers a gorgeous and affordable variety of high-quality washable rugs that lend the touch of personality and warmth you and your space are likely looking for. They’re also easy to clean and swap if you experience a life (or vibe) change that warrants a new rug.
Washable Rugs Like Never Before
The concept of a washable rug isn’t entirely novel – several other brands exist – but Tumble’s best features are. Tumble’s washable rugs:
- Are spill-proof, too: While you can toss these rugs into the wash for a full-on clean, they’re incredibly easy to spot clean as well. Their soft, low pile, and non-toxic surface somehow (magically!) causes liquids to bead up rather than sink in. Whether it’s a splash of coffee or a dash of salad dressing, a spill on these rugs is truly NBD.
- Offer a thick surface and a plush cushioned pad: Other washable rugs sacrifice that true rug heft for washability, but Tumble strikes an ideal balance. These rugs don’t wrinkle or crinkle when vacuumed or walked on – they behave like real rugs! – and their 1/4” cushioned pad feels amazing under your feet.
- Have corner pockets: The key to a rug’s washability is that it’s two pieces – the topper (which is what gives it its look and can be tossed into the washing machine) and the pad (which provides the support). Tumble thoughtful design features – like corner pockets on the top of the rug, which the rug pad tucks into, ensure that the pieces stay connected as one unit when you’re walking on it, vacuuming it, etc. No errant corners, rug-pad-visibility, or other snags often encountered with washable rugs.
- Boast eye-catching designs and colors: I’ll let the photos do most of the talking here, but it’s worth noting that these rugs are gorgeous! The Tumble team actually hand draws its designs, so you can’t find them elsewhere.
- Are affordable: One of the best parts is that while rugs have historically been big investments (many stunning rugs are priced well into the thousands), Tumble’s rugs range anywhere from $99 to $539 (for sizes 3x5’ to 9x12’ respectively). That’s a really great deal when you consider the quality, functionality, and aesthetics of these rugs!
All of these standout features speak to the intention that founders Justin Soleimani and Zach Dannett infused into the brand. They’re furniture industry veterans and it shows – Tumble has over 10,000 five-star reviews, many of which articulate how much more impressive the brand is versus its competitors.
Intrigued, I Ordered One – Here’s How It Works
While sorting out furniture is often tedious and confusing, ordering a rug from Tumble is not. The brand has both a Size Guide and an Ask A Designer feature to assist with your selection. There are general best practices when it comes to rug sizing (a 6x9’ is generally recommended under a king or queen sized bed, 8x10’ is the most versatile and common size for living rooms, etc.), and Tumble has them all listed in an easy-to-understand way.
Once you’ve got your size sorted, you can choose your design based on size, color, or collection – and there’s a lot to choose from! Everything from neutral & modern to persian & traditional and boho & southwestern.
Once you order, expect free and fast shipping. My rug came within a week, and setting it up was a breeze: lock the rug pad pieces into place (they’re numbered, just in case), tuck the corners of the rug pad into the rug pockets, add the included stickers for good measure, and your work, my friends, is done.
Honestly, I’m Floored
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to speak to the ~magical~ nature of the product's features for a few weeks, but as it turns out, I’m messier than I realized. Within hours of setting up the Lisa - Taupe/Multi runner in my kitchen, I knocked over a large can of olive oil that splattered entirely on the rug. While my initial reaction was frustration (of course I spilled olive oil, for the first time ever, on the rug that just arrived in the mail), I quickly realized that nothing was sinking into the surface of the rug. I swiftly wiped the oil from the rug, and it showed no signs of spillage at all. Magical!
Other highlights include washing it, which entails tossing it into the washing machine and…really nothing else. (You can throw it in the dryer, too.) Reattaching it to the rug pad is as easy as the initial setup – which was so easy, I feel weird insinuating that it involves any effort whatsoever.
I’ll also note that it vacuums well (no wrinkling or snagged edges like other washable rugs I’ve read about), and has generally held up beautifully.
And lastly, I know this may sound silly, but I wouldn’t mention it if it weren’t something that I’ve thought about multiple times over the past few weeks: this rug is so comfortable! I wasn’t totally sure that I wanted or needed a rug for my kitchen, but was keen to try Tumble, so it felt like the perfect opportunity. I was never uncomfortable cooking or rifling through my pantry before, but the extra cushion of this rug feels amazing under my feet! The details matter, and Tumble has thought of them all.
Read To Take A Tumble?
The only thing I’m not sure about is the design I chose. The runner elongates the look of my galley-style kitchen, but I’m not sure if the pattern matches the rest of my apartment. Luckily, the brand sells the rug without the rug pad, too! It’s nice to know that once you nail the size of the rug for your space and purchase one pad, you have the ability to update your rug if and when you update the rest of your space.
These rugs are great, and a true sigh of relief on the home design journey. Go ahead and order one – it’s a check off the to-buy list that’s sure to be high impact and low stress.
