As the days grow shorter and our hibernation instincts kick in, all we want to do is get off our screens and cozy up with a candle. Fall marks the start of some of our favorite activities, all of which are better and more luxurious with a candle by your side: Taking a soak after a brisk fall walk? Candle by the bath is a must. Curling up with the new Sally Rooney? Candle on the coffee table, always. Trying your hand at baking for the first time since last Thanksgiving? Soothing candle on the counter.
There’s nothing more beautiful than honoring nature’s transition into a new season by evoking the spiced, woody scents of fall. To celebrate our favorite small luxury to help welcome in the autumnal season, we tested some of the best fall candles on the market so you can find your home’s signature scent for fall.
Flamingo Estate’s signature Night Blooming Jasmine and Damask Rose scent is romantic and contemplative, anchoring the light florals of jasmine with the spiced aromas of bergamot, damask rose, sandalwood, and peppercorn. This is a year round favorite of the editors here at TQE, but we especially love it as a cozy, sophisticated companion for lengthening autumnal evenings.

Transition into the autumnal season with this trio set of Flamingo Estate’s most loved scents, starting with the lingering summer heat of their famous Roma Heirloom Tomato, into the savory Classic Tuscan Rosemary, and finally the cozy and contemplative Ancient Muscatel Sage. We love this as a way of honoring nature’s transformation from summer to fall, burning them all at once for a harmonious chord of three complementary scents, or taking them one at a time as we ease into a new season. The set makes a perfect gift for the brave hosts of all of the Thanksgiving dinners and holiday parties to come this fall and winter.

For a more traditional pumpkin scent, Brooklyn Candle Co.’s Toasted Pumpkin scent is one of our go-to’s. It’s got all the classic pumpkin spice notes, from cinnamon and nutmeg to clove and cardamom.

Loewe’s new Roasted Hazelnut scent evokes fall’s slow evolution into the holiday season. Its woody base notes transform over time into something a little sweet, but remain grounded in the earthiness of the core hazelnut scent. Their signature glazed terracotta vessels are beautiful home objects as well.

Tsu Lange Yor’s TLY 5755 is another woody scent, but uniquely features native Australian ingredients. It’s a compelling blend of musk and spice, with a hint of crisp forest green. We don’t know how Troye Sivan has found the time to launch a fragrance and home brand while on world tour, but the scents are good enough that we’re not asking any questions.

Comme des Garçons isn’t the first brand that comes to mind when it comes to scents, but we love both their colognes and home scents. Their CDG Scent 2 is a smoky, velvety blend of patchouli, vetiver, and magnolia.
