As a single mom of 3 (including twins), I am all about parenthood prep, and being as ready as possible for any / all situations that may arise. I feel like I live my life on the go, and wanted to share some of my MUST PACK items to keep in your car for your little ones (and yourself!!!).
From a portable potty that makes travel stress-free to a comprehensive first aid kit for those inevitable bumps and scrapes (plus kid-friendly water bottles, the coziest blanket, and a few hygiene must-haves), each item serves a purpose. Tackle the chaos of parenthood with confidence and ease – or, more confidence and ease – below.
Portable Potty
I do not leave my home without a portable potty in my car. When my kids were potty training, I would just bring along my potty from home (along with disinfectant wipes, toilet paper, and plastic bags to line the potty as needed). I know this doesn’t seem glamorous but it’s my #1 car travel hack with little kids. As a single mom of 3, it’s all about logistics when I travel. 3 of them, 1 of me and sometimes we all just use the potty in the car because it’s easier and less stressful than getting out of the car at a rest stop with 3 little people. It also comes in handy at sporting events, when we’d all prefer to avoid the port-o-potty. I love the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair because it’s a great mix of form and function, at a really great price!!

First Aid Kit
I am a safety first kind of mom and can’t recommend how important it is to keep a first aid kit in your car. Whether you are on a long trip, or just heading to the playground for a few hours, kids fall and (minor) accidents happen. Being able to clean and treat boo boos on the go will keep your little ones happy and prevent you from having to detour home to turn your child’s frown upside down. This First Aid Super Kit by Keep Going is not only adorable but it’s a family business that was born out of their experience traveling the world with 4 kids. They have thought of everything you need to keep your little ones mended and safe!

Water Bottles
I have home water bottles, school water bottles, and car water bottles. Everyone knows their “color” and this makes it super easy for everyone to stay hydrated (& happy) whether we are at home or in the car. I love the Klean Kanteen Classic Kids Sippy Bottle because they are super cute, don’t leak, and have options for a Sippy Cup top and a Sport Lid top. There’s nothing worse than a key ingredient for trying to keep your car clean with little kids.

Headphones
Headphones are a must for my kiddos when we travel, near or far. I am quick to get overstimulated by all the noise from devices (and talking, lol) and having headphones allows them to watch what they want, without making me feel like my head is going to explode from all the noise or them arguing with each other about turning the others ipads down. Can anyone relate?!!! These headphones are kid-safe, kid-proof, and kid-friendly. They use a built-in, always on, sound control circuit to cap the volume at levels recommended for children by the World Health Organization. They have wireless and noise canceling options, and come in a variety of adorable colors / patterns.

As a single mom of three, I know that being prepared can make all the difference when you’re on the go. In addition to the must-have items I've shared, I also make sure to pack a few more essentials that keep us comfortable and ready for anything life throws our way.
A cozy blanket is perfect for unexpected chilly moments, while a trusty flashlight can illuminate any situation, whether it’s a late-night car emergency or a spontaneous outdoor adventure. Staying connected is important to me, so I keep a reliable cell phone charger in the car to ensure I’m always connected. Sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer are a must for quick clean-ups, and a small trash can helps keep our space tidy (and double as a car sickness backup!!). Paper towels and baby wipes come to the rescue for those inevitable messes, and I always have a change of clothes on hand for everyone, just in case.
With this arsenal of essentials, I can confidently navigate the chaos of parenthood, knowing that I’m prepared for any situation that comes our way!
