Hailey Bieber may be the queen of blush at the moment, and it’s all thanks to her beauty line Rhode. The brand’s Pocket Blush has been the center of countless reviews on TikTok and worn by every one of my favorite beauty influencers. As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie and editor for over a decade, I was excited to try it out. Still, I’ve always been hesitant about diving into the world of blushes, especially because I never want to look back at photos and be accused of blush blindness! Putting on my journalistic hat, I turned to the expert celebrity makeup artist Diane Buzzetta, known for her signature soft, sculpted glow. She has an incredible lineup of clients including Mrs. Bieber herself and I still find myself referring back to the one famous strawberry shortcake-inspired look they did together.
Rhode’s blushes are aptly named Pocket Blush because you guessed it, they are “pocket-sized” and meant to be small enough to pop into your jeans. (Though they are a little chunky and I would more likely pop them into my purse!) The starlet released six different shades of the cream blush sticks with cutesy names like Piggy, a baby pink; Juice Box, a hot pink; Spicy Marg, a bright coral; Freckle, a neutral peach; Sleepy Girl, a soft mauve; and lastly, Toasted Teddy, a bronze terracotta.
Keep reading to read my honest, unfiltered review on whether these blushes are worth purchasing and tips and tricks on the best way to apply them.

About Pocket Blush
The product itself is marketed as an on-the-go blush. It boasts a lightweight formula that’s meant to leave your skin feeling hydrated and is infused with peptides and tamanu oil. The addition of peptides felt very on-brand since Hailey is known for her coined “Glazed Donut” dewy glow and the brand’s first product the Rhode Peptide Lip Balms. The blushes are meant to leave a glowy finish without that annoying greasy feel that builds up after hours of wear. The best part of Rhode’s Pocket Blush? You can apply it on both your cheeks and your lips.

Choosing The Right Shade
After scrolling the website and looking at the shades on different skin types, I decided to opt for two of the most popular shades: Piggy and Sleepy Girl. Right off the bat, I was initially more drawn toward Piggy because it was a baby pink shade I was most used to. I also wanted to choose a darker shade, which I usually wouldn’t opt for to push my blush boundaries. Sleepy Girl is a dark mauve color and I thought the darker shade would help add more dimension to my look but in the end, I only ended up using Piggy.
If you’re unsure which color to choose, Buzzetta has an easy way to help you decide. “When looking for your go-to perfect everyday shade it’s important to identify the undertone of your skin so you can match the blush undertone to naturally enhance your cheeks with a soft pop of color,” she tells TQE. “Undertones are categorized as cool (blue, pink, red), warm (yellow, gold, peach), and neutral. Another thing to consider is the tone of your skin (fair, medium, deep) versus the vibrancy of the blush shade to make sure the pigment will show up and compliment your skin tone.”

How To Apply
After watching plenty of TikToks from Mrs. Bieber herself on the right way to apply and taking tips from a world-renowned celebrity makeup artist, I decided to dive right in.
Before you get started with your blush, you have to apply foundation, contour, and concealer on to your skin, Buzzetta explains. “Once I have those products on, I use a cream blush, like the Rhode Pocket Blush, then set with a loose powder. After that, I finish the rest of the makeup application and go back in with another layer of blush to make sure it’s a fresh pop of lasting color.”
I went in with my regular routine of using Squigs Double Shot Face Serum as a primer followed by Saie’s Glowy Super Skin Tint Foundation and Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer under my eyes. I topped it off with Hourglasses’s translucent powder.
According to Hailey’s TikToks, you can apply the blush in two easy ways. You can either apply the products with your finger or a brush and tap it on your cheeks. Or, you can simply swipe it directly on your cheeks and blend it out with a brush. To see how pigmented the shades were, I started by swiping the shades on the inside of my wrist.
Since the shades were super buildable, I swiped the shade Piggy directly onto my cheeks to see how it looked before blending it with a brush. Surprisingly, the shade looked more pigment on my wrist than when I directly applied it to my cheeks.
If you’re struggling to figure out what the right way to apply blush is, Buzzetta has you covered. “For blush placement, a good smile can help you determine where the apples of the cheeks are.” She goes on to explain, “ I like to apply blush to the center of the upper apples of the cheek in an upward and outward direction for a more lifted effect. I’m always cautious not to bring the blush too far down. I like to use nostrils as a stopping point.”
You’ve probably also seen Hailey apply the blush on the tip of her nose which is another trick Buzzetta likes to follow, as well. As an additional bonus trick, Buzzetta reveals, “The Rhode Blush has a beautiful hydrating finish so I love to use this as a final touch and even tap some onto the lip.” I’ve got to say, I love the dual use of the product.

The Final Results
Aside from the product itself being super cute to look at, I liked that the shades were super creamy. Depending on how much you want to apply you can build it up to your preferred hue.
Out of the two shades I got (Sleepy Girl and Piggy) I would probably wear Piggy more regularly. I would wear Sleepy Girls for date nights or days I want something more amped up or even as a contour stick. The Pocket Blush delivers a natural makeup look that adds just a touch of dewiness. It didn’t feel like I was wearing layers of makeup and the creaminess of the blush didn’t look too heavy on my skin. It also didn’t feel like it was clogging my pores which is something I’m not a fan of with certain blushes. Needless to say, I will be using this blush again and I’ve already tossed it into my everyday makeup pouch.
