Red Light, Green Light: My Time With Omnilux's Very Famous Contour Face Mask

Red Light Royalty has arrived.

In partnership with Omnilux. Editor’s Note: We only select and work with partners that meet our quality standards, so you can rest assured we only endorse products we believe in.

If you’re deep in the wellness scene, or are even wellness “adjacent,” you’ve likely been hearing about red light therapy (RLT) for a few years now…not that it’s only been around for a few years, but rather that everyone has started talking about it as the ultimate recovery mechanism that you can access at home.

Whether in a face wand, face mask, light panel, light bed, infrared sauna, red light therapy has become known as the be-all-end-all for anti-aging and cellular regeneration in the world of skincare. However, with such a huge influx of at-home red light devices hitting the market, it’s gotten harder and harder to actually “see the light” or real, measurable results.

At the top of everyone’s list time and time again remains Omnilux’s Contour Face Mask, the OG red light therapy mask delivering a healthy dose of two clinically proven, clinically effective colors of  light at the optimized wavelengths: 633nm red and 830nm near-infrared light.

I’m definitely no red light novice, but have struggled to find a red light therapy routine I could do consistently or comfortably. Just as my nasal labial folds and hormonal acne were threatening visibility, I had the opportunity to enter the red zone with the Contour Face Mask, and I honestly haven’t looked back since.

We like

  • Clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, the appearance of pigmentation and redness, and promote healthier, younger-looking skin
  • No pain, side effects, or downtime
  • FDA-cleared and dermatologist-recommended, with 40+ peer-reviewed brand studies
  • Only requires 10 minutes of usage per day
  • Equipped with 132 medical-grade LEDs and optimized wavelengths of red and near-infrared light

We don't like

  • Even though the Contour Mask only requires 10 minutes of usage per day, you need to use the mask consistently (at least 3-5x per week for 4-6 weeks) to see visible results
  • At $395, the mask isn’t cheap, but we found it be well worth it
Welcome to the red zone.

Left on Red

Even though red light therapy has been somewhat “claimed” by the biohacking community, it has actually been around—well—as long as the sun has.

But first, a little about the light spectrum: Okay, so…in the most basic of terms, the sun naturally emits a broad spectrum of electromagnetic waves that include visible light, ultraviolet light, infrared light, and “so much more.” In fact, the light spectrum is thought to be directly tied to our bodily systems and hormonal functions, promoting different physical responses throughout the day to help us be productive, signal when it’s time to eat, and prepare for rest. An example: blue light is meant to increase cortisol levels in the morning so as to encourage us to work while red light in the evening dominates the light spectrum to help us produce more melatonin to promote rest and recovery. Fascinating, right?

While our eyes have light receptors that are affected by different light wavelengths (hence the surge in blue light glasses and computer screen coverings), it turns out that our skin also has light receptors. TL;DR: if your skin is being hyperdosed with artificial blue light all day long, the cellular ATP (aka energy your cells need to stay buoyant and healthy) runs at half mast, leading to inflammaging

Red-y to Rock

Red light therapy is obviously making a name for itself in the skincare world, but at its core, red light therapy has a ton of benefits:

  • Promotes wound healing and tissue repair
  • Increases collagen and elastin production
  • Improves overall skin texture and smoothness, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Helps soothe skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and sun damage
  • Supports acne treatment and photoaging
  • Helps reduce inflammation and muscle tension
  • Promotes hair growth

Let It Glow, Let It Glow, Let It Glow

The Omnilux Contour Face Mask is everyone’s “OTL” (one true love, just in case) as far as at-home red light therapy devices go.

This FDA-cleared, derm-recommended red light therapy device has clinically proven results for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation (and over 450,000 glowing customers to boot). For over 20 years, Omnilux has stood out amongst the rest as the LED brand that is most tested and trusted by dermatologists worldwide. Quality matters, y’all.

So what makes the Contour Face Mask so powerful? Omnilux uses a red light and near-infrared at professional-grade doses to synergistically activate a healing response within the skin. More on that below…

  1. Red Light (633nm) | Helps to reduce inflammation, pigmentation, and redness while helping prompt cellular repair and circulation for a more vibrant complexion.
  2. Near-Infrared Light (830nm) | Targets deeper fibroblast cells, stimulating new collagen and elastin production, resulting in plumper, firmer, more youthful looking skin.

Yes, $395 isn’t cheap, but when you consider the Contour Face Mask to be a non-invasive, zero-downtime, limitless-usage solution that you can pop on for 10 minutes a day (while multitasking), it amortizes its own cost.

Catch me, I’m glowing.

10 Minutes a Day Keeps the Aging Away

Going into my red light Phantom of the Wellness Opera experience, I was so curious about whether or not I would notice any changes within my skin tone and texture. I’ve absolutely been on a skin journey lately—from the inside and out—but have been left with some acne scars and post-travel inflammation, which left me feeling lackluster.

My Contour Face Mask arrived, and I squealed, “She’s not like the other girls,” as I quietly shoved my pandemic-purchased Alibaba-esque red light therapy device under my bed. “Time for the real deal.”

I did as I was told, applying Omnilux’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum pre-LED session for max red light therapy amplification, followed by their Peptide Concentrate, which helps to optimize the mask’s LED therapy post-treatment while also replenishing the skin.

Helping my light go deep.

Every day, whether I was cleaning the house, lying on my PEMF mat (#humblebrag), watching my favorite show, or just indulging in my 1,000-step skincare routine, I committed to my 10-minute red light therapy session with my mask. It fit like a glove, didn’t leave any marks on my nose or face, but still felt like it was snug enough to provide an ample amount of red light and near-infrared light into the skin at an effective dose.

After just one week of consistent use, I noticed my skin looked SUPER calm and SUPER glowy. I had multiple people asking me “what I was doing differently,” which was such a gag because I was expecting the results to take so much longer than just one week. Even though my scarring and pigmentation are going to take some time, I noticed my skin tone and complexion show a significant reduction in redness, irritation, and generalized “haggardness” after just one usage.

As Carpenters once sang, “We’ve only just begun.”

Shine Bright

There’s not a lot promised to us in this life other than the reality that time passes and we’ll all keep aging, but—before you think I’m only delivering bad news again—Omnilux’s Contour Face Mask gives us a proactive way to optimize how we age.

Stop at the red light, then go forth and conquer. Plus, get a free ultra-hydrating gift with purchases for a limited time.
