Reader: Can you help me find a fall candle that doesn't smell like food?
Remi: Candles are our love language over here, so TQE to the rescue. With so many delicious scents out there, it’s hard to choose just one fall candle. So, I’m going to share a few! Generally, look for fragrances in the woody and amber families. These will have the earthy, spicy, warm, and sweet notes that evoke all of that autumnal goodness. Le Labo may be renowned for its Santal 33 fragrance, but Encens 9 ($84) is a sleeper hit. With soothing, warm, and spicy aromatics this scent is the kind that makes you want to curl up on the couch with a blanket, good book, and warm cup of tea. Can’t you just imagine it?! Byredo is another brand pumping out unique olfactory experiences, like this Bibliothèque Candle ($94). Notes of leather, vanilla, cinnamon and plum will have you enveloped in cozy sweetness with just a whiff. Gris from Le Feu De L’Eau ($70) is sensual and seasonal, layered with sandalwood, clove, and amber. The coolest part about this candle is it’s made entirely out of wax, even the exterior, which give it a super unique look. If none of these picks tickle your fancy, we recommend checking out the rest of the selections at each of these fragrance brands. With so many wonderful fragrances to choose from, you’ll be one step closer to the moody, cozy, autumn aesthetic of your dreams.
Reader: I’m searching for the perfect pair of classic leather knee-high boots. Any ideas?
Remi: With fall right around the corner, a pair of quality leather boots is a must. Knee-highs are chic and versatile, making them a favorite in wardrobes everywhere. For a sexy take on the style, go for the Kate Boot from Larroude ($485). For a 3.8” stiletto heel, this boot is quite comfortable. And it looks good with everything, from your favorite little black dress for date night or peeking out of a pair of bootcut jeans for a casual dinner. Aloha’s East Leather Boots ($370) come highly recommended for their simple and stylish silhouette. Plus, the block heel means these boots really are made for walking. We love all of the fun color options and that the brand uses sustainable leather. If a heel just isn’t your vibe, you can never go wrong with a lug sole boot. I’m a huge fan of a chunky chelsea boot, and have long had my eye on the Knee-High Chelsea Boot from Ganni ($595). This pair is easy to slip on and can easily be dressed up or down, making the whole getting ready in the morning thing a breeze. All of these picks cater to different styles, but the good news is you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
Reader: What’s the best teeth whitener?
Remi: This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m a huge fan of Crest 3D Whitestrips ($20). They’re affordable, easy to use, and always deliver speedy, reliable results. If you want something a bit less dramatic and more natural, you can make teeth whitening a part of your daily routine with a whitening toothpaste. The Ela Mint n-Ha Toothpaste from Boka ($12) ditches fluoride in exchange for nano-hydroxyapatite which helps remineralize, strengthen, and even whiten your teeth. Oral care brand Snow has the At-Home Teeth Whitening Kit ($100) which helps you get a professional teeth whitening experience from the comfort of your own home.
Reader: Do you have recommendations for men’s sneakers with an old money vibe?
Remi: I’ve been seeing this concept of “old money dressing” a lot on social media. People really love it or hate it, but regardless of how you feel about the idea as a whole it’s worth recognizing that it can mean something different to everyone. I take this concept to mean timeless items that are subtly luxurious, so that’s what we’re going for here. For a men’s sneaker, I’d look for low tops made with high-quality materials, simple designs, and not too much fuss. Thursday Boot Company’s Premier Low Top ($129), Greats’ The Reign ($200), and the Koio Capri ($295) are all great examples of this. For a more sporty look, try opting for a classic silhouette with a vintage feel like the Reebok Club C 85 ($90).
