Spending part of the holiday season away from the comforts of home is a unique experience for any traveler, and it’s an equally challenging task for any resort to recreate. While most guests in the summertime are looking for a blissful getaway that contrasts their everyday life, the average Christmas traveler is in search of something entirely different—a trip that beckons rest and relaxation while also maintaining the holiday cheer and nostalgia. And for us Californians, when it’s not a perfect 75 and sunny, we seriously have to find a place that is.
A tricky balance, I know. But trust me, I know just the place.
When my husband Andy asked me to come up with ideas for our holiday getaway, my mind conjured up three requirements: somewhere luxurious, easy to get to, and truly relaxing. Instantly, Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort in Los Cabos, came to mind.
We’ve stayed here there a few times before and always leave with the most beautiful hand-blown glass ornaments they gift their guests as a kind-gestured farewell and a momento for the holidays. Those cherished ornaments now hang in our home, reminding me of past trips filled with heart-warming memories.
This resort is nothing short of a dream—known for its exceptional service, stunning views, and thoughtful touches that make you feel completely indulged. Visiting just before the ‘Christmas craze’ with Andy, my mom, and our kids, Leia and Alexander, felt magical. It was exactly what we needed: a chance to preemptively unplug from the holiday chaos and soak up some uninterrupted family time in an oasis where every little detail is perfect.

The Art of Luxury in Los Cabos
Las Ventanas al Paraíso hits the sweet spot between the timeless beauty of traditional Mexican architecture and the indulgent comforts of modern luxury. It’s the kind of place that redefines “getaway,” where every detail whispers relaxation and sophistication. At its pinnacle is Villa Paraíso, an exquisite five-bedroom haven tucked along the postcard-worthy coastline of Los Cabos. Spanning over 12,000 square feet, it’s not just a villa—it’s a sanctuary for families or groups craving a one-of-a-kind, ultra-private escape. Think sweeping ocean views, a stunning infinity pool that seems to melt into the horizon, a private fitness center to keep your wellness game strong, and a top-notch staff that includes your own butler and private chef.
The design is intentional, fusing the earthy richness of traditional Mexican craftsmanship with contemporary elegance. Indoor-outdoor living spaces invite the Baja breeze to dance through as you sip your morning coffee or clink glasses of mezcal under the stars. From customized spa treatments that feel like pure alchemy to al fresco dinners where the ocean serenades your senses, every moment at Villa Paraíso feels like it’s been plucked straight from a dream. It’s not just a vacation spot—it’s where memories take root and linger long after the last sunset.
And then there’s the ride from the airport—a quiet prelude to the showstopper that is Las Ventanas. As we rolled up, I discovered that this paradise isn’t just a celebration of luxury; it’s a love letter to art and culture. Two standout masterpieces greeted me like old friends: a mesmerizing multi-colored painting by celebrated Mexican artist Rodrigo Pimental, brimming with the rich hues and cultural vibrancy that define the region, and a captivating bronze mermaid sculpture by renowned American artist Deloss McGraw that feels almost alive, drawing you in like a siren’s call. These artistic touches, prominently displayed in the reception area, don’t just serve as decorations—they set the tone. They’re the first brushstrokes of a larger narrative, immersing you in a heritage-rich ambiance that stays with you long after you leave.
It’s these thoughtful details that elevate Las Ventanas al Paraíso from a resort to a masterpiece.
A Home Away from Home with Accommodations That Define Comfort
Upon arriving at the property at night, we were first shown to the penthouse suite—the only one of its kind on the property. While the suite was undeniably stunning, my husband and I decided to move rooms for one simple reason: the four-story climb and open railings weren’t exactly relaxing with two little kids in tow. Thankfully, our gracious butlers quickly accommodated our request, making the transition a breeze.
While they prepared our new space, we enjoyed a gorgeously decadent dinner on the beach. And once our tummies were contently packed to the brim, we were shown to Villa Paraiso. It was clear we had made the right decision, landing ourselves in yet another picture-perfect spot. Located on the ground floor, just a short stroll from the beach, the villa beautifully balances practicality and charm—perfect for our family. Every detail felt like a tribute to Baja California, with artisan-crafted furnishings, handwoven textiles, and earthy tones harmonizing effortlessly with the surrounding landscape.
The terrace quickly became the highlight of our stay, offering panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez that felt straight out of a postcard. Each time we stepped outside, it was as if the world slowed down, letting us fully soak in the endless blue skies and shimmering water. The in-suite jacuzzi and private pool were just as incredible, whether we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee soak or an evening swim beneath the stars. It didn’t take long for us to claim this little slice of paradise as our happy place.
What really made the villa special were the small, thoughtful details that made it feel like home. Leia and Alexander were absolutely delighted to find tiny, personalized robes and slippers waiting for them (needless to say, the cuteness overload was captured in plenty of photos). Each bathroom had a discreet repair kit stocked with thread perfectly matched to the resort’s linens—a small but incredibly practical touch for any wardrobe mishaps. Guests can choose to use the kit themselves or simply ask their butler to handle it. It was effortless luxury at its finest.
It was the little details and personal attentiveness that made Las Ventanas feel so special. Every touch felt like it was designed just for us, from the cloud-soft bedding to the minibar that somehow had exactly what we wanted. They had a way of anticipating our needs before we even thought of them, which made the whole experience feel effortless and uniquely personal. It wasn’t just a stay—it was a level of care and thoughtfulness we’ll always remember.
Feliz Navi-dads, Moms, and Kids at Las Ventanas
While Las Ventanas is known for its romantic ambiance, we were pleasantly surprised by how well it caters to families. For parents with younger children, the resort offers a thoughtful range of amenities, including portable and full-size cribs with linens, changing tables, diaper pails, baby bathtubs, and even wireless baby monitors for in-suite use. The staff truly went the extra mile to make sure Leia and Alexander felt just as pampered as we did.
Though the resort doesn’t have a traditional kids’ club or structured activities, the pools became the center of our family fun. Alexander loved splashing in the shallow areas, while Leia spent hours perfecting her cannonball technique. The staff added to the experience with poolside games and floaties, enhancing our afternoons with playful and relaxed vibes. It’s worth mentioning that many kid-focused activities do come with an additional fee, which is something to keep in mind if you’re looking for an all-inclusive experience. We lucked out with a pop-up kids’ club that opened early for the holidays. It was beautifully designed and full of activities, though you’re required to hire a nanny to supervise your kids while they’re there. We decided to try it for a day and a half, and the kids had an absolute blast.
The beachfront, while gorgeous, isn’t swimmable due to strong currents, so families should plan for pool days or book excursions through the concierge for safe swimming spots. While this could be a downside for some, we found the poolside service—complete with chilled towels and refreshing fruit popsicles—more than made up for it.
All that said, for the price, families might find more practical or budget-friendly options elsewhere. Still, the experience was special enough that Andy and I know we’ll be back.
A Culinary Experience for All
The dining experience at Las Ventanas was nothing short of extraordinary. Every restaurant on the property showcased vibrant, colorful dishes that highlighted local ingredients and flavors, from authentic Mexican specialties to Mediterranean-inspired creations. The culinary team’s artistry shone on every plate, and their attentiveness to our family’s needs was impressive. We asked that they prepare everything with olive oil or butter instead of canola oil, and not only did they accommodate this request—they remembered it at every meal without us needing to remind them.
For Leia and Alexander, the custom children’s menu was a game-changer. It wasn’t just the usual chicken nuggets and fries; instead, there were hand-pressed tortillas filled with cheese, brightly colored veggies, and freshly made guacamole they could help prepare tableside. Even my picky eaters (cue my kids) found something to get excited about. Mealtime became part of the adventure, with every dish presented in a way that feels fun and engaging for the whole family.
For us adults, every meal felt like a celebration. The sommelier-recommended wine pairings were spot-on. The desserts were indulgent enough to make us consider skipping dinner altogether next time and going straight for sweets. Dinners became my chance to dress up—a rare treat in my athleisure-dominated daily life—because on vacation, why not lean into a little glamour?
It’s worth noting that dining here comes at a premium—pizzas, for example, were a bit steep—but the quality and kindness of the service made it feel worthwhile. The only hiccup was the wait time; meals often took 45 minutes to an hour, which made the kids a little restless at times. Still, by the end of each meal, we always left the table with full bellies, happy hearts, and an even greater appreciation for the care and thoughtfulness behind every bite.
World-Class Service: The Las Ventanas Signature Touch
Las Ventanas is celebrated for its impeccable service, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear why. The staff seemed to anticipate our every need with genuine warmth and care. We were welcomed with perfectly chilled margaritas (with virgin versions for Leia and Alexander) and personally escorted to our suite by our butlers, Hugo, Arody, and Francisco, who felt more like family by the end of our stay.
Our butlers were nothing short of miracle workers, seamlessly handling everything from reserving poolside loungers to securing a last-minute dinner reservation. It wasn’t just the efficiency that impressed us—it was the thoughtfulness. They remembered our preferences, greeted us by name, and always seemed one step ahead, making every interaction feel personal and meaningful.
The resort also offered a range of unique experiences that made our stay even more memorable. We enjoyed tequila tastings crafted just for the adults and stargazing sessions that Leia and Alexander absolutely loved. It’s the little things like these, combined with the extraordinary service, that made us feel not just like guests but truly cared for in every sense.
Spa Days and Shoreline Adventures:
No visit to Las Ventanas is complete without experiencing their award-winning spa. Andy, my mom, and I treated ourselves to a therapeutic massage that blended indigenous healing techniques with luxurious care. I had no idea what I was in store for, but I trusted the process, and let me tell you—the results were nothing short of perfection. My mom, who’s tried her fair share of spa treatments, even declared it the best massage of her life—a statement not made lightly! The entire experience, from the soothing aromatherapy to the personalized attention, left us feeling completely refreshed and renewed.
For families, the resort offers a variety of unforgettable excursions. We opted for a horseback ride along the shoreline, which undoubtedly became one of our trip’s standout moments. Watching Leia and Alexander take in the stunning ocean views from horseback is a memory I’ll cherish forever.
With the holidays just around the corner, the resort went all out with festive decor and special activities that brought an extra layer of magic to our stay. Whether it was the cozy holiday vibes or the thoughtful touches throughout, the experience felt like a gift in itself.
A Perfect Pre-Holiday Send-Off
Las Ventanas al Paraíso truly lives up to its name, creating unforgettable moments for every type of traveler. While the resort is best known for its romantic ambiance, its thoughtful accommodations and attention to detail make it just as welcoming for families. Parents should keep in mind that there’s no formal kids’ program, but the exceptional service, incredible dining, and tranquil atmosphere more than make up for it.
As we packed up to leave, Leia turned to me with a smile and asked, “Can we come back next year?” It’s hard to say no after the send-off we received. The hotel brought out a wagon filled with balloons and Ty Beanie Babies for the kids to pick from—a sweet touch they’d been excited about all trip (a fun nod to Ty Warner, the resort’s owner). Moments like these perfectly summed up our time here. Las Ventanas isn’t just a resort; it’s a place where thoughtful gestures and unforgettable experiences leave a long-lasting impression once the vacation ends.
