The way I see it, there are two types of people in this world: those who embrace the start of a new year with a clear state of optimism, and those of us who hit a somewhat mental blank wall post holiday season.
With the festivities over and a return back to the daily office grind, it’s not at all uncommon for a downshift in mood to occur during the first month of the new year. After all, the third Monday of January was officially crowned Blue Monday in 2004 by Dr Cliff Arnall (and no, that’s sadly not a reference to New Order).
What’s the solution for those who find themselves in the latter camp? A little self care and TLC goes a long way. Ultimately, it’s important to remember that this does not necessarily always translate to buying nice things (but admittedly, it helps, from time to time).
With this in mind, we’ve rounded up some treats that might just help to pull you out of the doldrums and bring a bit of much needed joy to a dreary January.

If introducing more activity into your life was a resolution for 2024, why not kill two birds with one stone with these electric grip socks from doublesoul that improve your pilates practice while simultaneously sparking joy. Whether you’re taking to the mat, barre, or reformer, it pays to have some extra grip to keep your poses in place and form on point. While they’re offered in neutrals like black and white, we’d nudge you towards the vibrant caterpillar or hibiscus colorways to add some dopamine to your winter wardrobe.

Minimalist streetwear label Museum Of Peace And Quiet emulates the conscious, laid back way of living that we’re striving to bring into the new year. What better than injecting this message onto a doormat you’ll pass multiple times a day. Now, if only it was an actual museum we could visit.

If gloomy Monday mornings are your nemesis, it might be time to invest in a SAD lamp. This lamp can help combat the signs of Seasonal Affective Disorder, which tends to rear its ugly head during these shorter days. The bright LED light from the 10,000 lux charged device helps to improve sleep and balance mood. It also looks pretty fancy and is slim enough for your travels. A small price to pay for an improved state of well-being, we think.

One of the many things I miss about childhood is the ability to sleep like a baby. Sadly, those days are long gone, along with my metabolism and ability to do shoulder stands. But I digress. Whilst I won’t be doing any shoulder stands in the near future, I might be falling asleep a little quicker with the aid of a newly purchased Luna weighted blanket. Filled with a unique “glass sand” which gives the weighty hugging sensation (in a non-creepy way) helps to release the sleep hormone melatonin and reduce stress. Hello, blissful slumber.

It’s scientifically proven that chocolate increases levels of dopamine – a crucial feel-good hormone. However, the best kind coco fix (and arguably, one of the better-for-you options out there) is one with added CBD. Vital Leaf’s award winning vegan, organic and fair trade range provides 200mg per bar. This equates to a maximum of ten servings (although up to three segments can be consumed at one time for a more targeted effect). Can you think of a better tasting way to indulge a stressed out mind after a long day? We can’t.

This smooth and creamy turmeric mixture only needs to be mixed with water to create a tasty, mood lifting alternative to caffeine. The list of health benefits from turmeric is pretty impressive – from anxiety to arthritis, adding the bright yellow spice to your day is great for general well-being. Aside from that, it also tastes delightful: think of an earthy PSL without the syrup and cream overload (and that eventual sugar crash).

The cheery rainbow packaging alone is delightful enough to display in your bathroom (it’s a given that we’ll be repurposing the packaging). We’re also loving the divine blend of west coast sea salts, french green clay and jojoba oil. The perfect mix for the ultimate rejuvenating bathing session.
