I’ve struggled with my skin for years, with everything from dry skin to hormonal acne, and now in my mid twenties *sigh* the beginning signs of aging. Although sometimes a trip to the dermatologist is necessary, a professional facial can make a world of difference. The catch being, a good facial can be upwards of $150 for one treatment. I searched far and wide for an alternative, and stumbled across the Swedish brand FOREO. They claim to have a gadget to replace every part of your self-care routine, and to be able to let you do it all at home in only six minutes. This begs the question—can these at home gadgets really replace your spa day?
Step One: Cleansing
I decided to find out for myself by using FOREO’s full line of products consistently to see if they really make a difference. The first step in this routine is the LUNA—a facial cleansing device that uses T-sonic pulsations to aid in deep pore cleansing, boost circulation and promote lymphatic drainage, which in turn should reduce puffiness. I like to use the LUNA with my Margy’s Monte Carlo The Azulene Cleansing Milk which uses azulene, marine collagen and chamomile to cleanse, heal and firm your skin. The LUNA felt like a gentle massage and I noticed a big difference in the removal of makeup and grime that built up on my face from a day of being out in the city.

Step Two: Treating
After cleansing, I went in with the UFO 3—a heating and cooling face mask device with full-spectrum LED that deeply hydrates and massages product into the skin. The UFO 3 claims to be comparable to an at-home facial and is great for all skin types. I decided to test out the Green Tea UFO™ activated mask to treat my acne prone skin, which you can easily pop in and out of the device. If you don’t want to invest in FOREO’s masks, you can also use the device with any sheet mask you may have in your collection. I turned it to the blue light setting which is meant to treat blemishes, and is one of the eight light treatments available which heals everything from dry skin to age spots. The device connects via bluetooth to the FOREO app on your phone, and allows you to choose the settings based on your skin’s needs.
The UFO 3 works in two minutes from start to finish, and gives a really nice heating and cooling sensation as it utilizes T-sonic pulsations to work all the nutrients from the face mask into the skin. I’m not sure if it was a placebo effect but the next morning I woke up feeling like my skin was extremely hydrated and smoother, and the swelling from the few blemishes I had seemed to have gone down.

Step Three: Firming
I was the most excited to try FOREO’s BEAR device. I’ve been interested in microcurrent facials for quite some time, so the possibility of doing one myself in just two minutes was appealing. I applied FOREO’s SUPERCHARGED Serum 2.0 to my face to help the device glide smoothly across my skin, but you can use any other water-based serum you have access to. I connected the BEAR to FOREO’s app—which is great because you can connect all your devices in one place—and chose the Gentle V Shape Yoga workout. The app plays a video to walk you through the entire process as a model demonstrates how to glide the device across your skin and times the movements for you.
One thing I would recommend is starting on the lowest setting, as the microcurrent can get pretty powerful for first time users, as you get more comfortable with the process you can move up the levels. If you have an active blemish the device may give it a little extra shock, so avoid those areas if possible. It was weird to watch my muscles visibly twitch as the BEAR moved across them, but after a few consecutive sessions I noticed visible tightening along my neck and jawline. Overall, I was incredibly happy with the results of this device and could see myself easily adding it to my routine as a little extra step of self care.

The Takeaway
The LUNA, UFO 3 and BEAR exceeded my expectations and truly give you a spa experience in under six minutes. The features on the app make the devices easy and fun to use. The caveat being that these items come with a hefty price tag (starting at $279 for the LUNA), but investing in them may also cut back on your expenses with your esthetician. If I had to choose one product to recommend most it would be the UFO 3 because of its full-spectrum LED light and cryo- and thermo- therapy capabilities—meaning more versatility. FOREO is also so confident in their products that upon purchase they guarantee full warranty coverage, and they will replace your device free of charge for up to two years. So to answer my initial question, yes these devices used consistently may be able to replace your spa day, but I think I would still treat myself to one from time to time. If you’re looking for an in home option, FOREO might be for you.
