In the hustle and bustle of daily life, finding time for self-care can often feel unattainable. Enter the everything shower: a comprehensive self-care ritual that transforms the mundane act of showering (which you would do every day anyway) into a rejuvenating experience. It’s both practical and productive!
After going viral on TikTok, millions of people have started incorporating this into their lives, including myself. Whether you’re looking to unwind after a long day or prep for a special occasion, the everything shower allows you to tailor the experience to your needs and schedule. It’s all about taking that precious time to care for yourself both physically and mentally, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized.
So, how often should you indulge in this? How do I know what products I need? And overall, what the heck is it? Well, let me tell you.
What is an everything shower?
An everything shower is a comprehensive self-care ritual that goes beyond just a regular shower. It involves a combination of cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing, along with additional pampering steps like hair treatments, body scrubs, and aromatherapy. However, you can tailor this routine to include whatever fits your schedule and needs. The goal is to create a spa-like experience where you can relax and indulge in some quality me-time. It’s about taking the time to care for yourself both physically and mentally.
How often do I take an everything shower?
How often you take an everything shower really depends on your personal preferences and schedule! I like to take one every Thursday to feel my best for the weekend ahead. However, the key is to listen to your body and find a rhythm that works for you to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
PRE-SHOWER
Step 1: Set the Mood
A true everything shower starts long before the water turns on. For the ultimate relaxing and all-encompassing experience, it’s about setting the perfect ambiance. First, I cue the music and mix up a delicious mocktail to drink while I do my pre-shower prep (I love the calm spermidine & taurine elixir from Agent Nateur). I light a candle and turn on my Pura Diffuser ($50)-the combination of the two makes the room smell like a luxury spa. It’s the perfect way to unwind and truly indulge in self-care. Enjoy the you-time!
Step 2: Hair Oil
I’ve been really into hair care recently, and I’ve noticed such a difference using special products like Curie's Body & Hair Oil. As the colder months approach, this step feels even more crucial for keeping my hair hydrated. With nourishing ingredients like squalane and moringa oil, it provides deep hydration without leaving my hair too greasy. I apply generously into the ends of my hair, and massage any excess into dry areas of my skin, like my elbows and chest.
Step 3: Lymphatic Drainage
While I let the hair oil soak in, I move onto my lymphatic drainage routine. I started doing this about two years ago, and I will never go back. There are so many benefits to lymphatic drainage including improved circulation, reduced inflammation, detoxification, stress relief, and more. And best of all, I can actually feel the difference after I do it! As part of my nightly routine, I love to use Dr. Barbara Strum’s Body Brush ($45). However, when I go through my everything shower routine, I prefer to take my time and do more thorough lymphatic drainage using Kate McLeod’s Body Gua Sha ($95) and Wildling’s Body Oil ($62) to help the tool glide and prevent pulling.

Step 4: Hair Care
Now that I’m finally in the shower, I like to start with my hair. Since I already have my hair oil in, I begin by using the Act + Acre Shampoo and Conditioner Duo ($128). I’ve heard a lot about the double shampoo trend, which involves shampooing twice in a row for a more thorough cleanse, especially beneficial for removing buildup and excess oils. This technique can leave your hair feeling lighter and more refreshed. I haven’t tried it yet but need to start—let me know if you do! After shampooing, I love to follow up with the Ouai Gloss In Shower Hair Mask. It deeply hydrates my hair, leaving it sleek and shiny, which is a must for my dry strands.
Step 5: Exfoliate
It’s important to exfoliate after dry brushing to clear away dead skin. I also find that exfoliating before shaving makes a significant difference in preventing ingrown hairs and allows for a closer, smoother shave. The Osea Body Scrub ($48) is one of my favorites. The blend of natural ingredients, including sea salt and nourishing oils, not only exfoliates but also hydrates. After rinsing it off, my skin feels refreshed and rejuvenated.
Step 6: Shave
Now that I’ve exfoliated, my skin is ready for a shave. I start by applying a generous amount of Fur’s Shave Cream ($32), which creates a rich, creamy lather that protects my skin while still allowing for a close shave. Its nourishing ingredients keep my skin hydrated and minimize irritation, making the whole process simpler. I recently learned the benefits of using a single-blade razor like Hanni’s Weighted Razor ($42). The precision blade effortlessly glides over my skin, ensuring a smooth finish without any nicks or cuts.
Step 7: Body Wash
Skincare isn’t just for your face which is why I love Agent Nateur’s Ageless Body Cleanser ($52). This three-phase cleanser transforms from gel to oil to a creamy foam, for a purifying clean without drying or stripping my skin. Made with lactic acid and peony extract, it combats dullness, buildup, ingrown hairs, and keratosis pilaris. It also shields my skin against pollution and effectively reduces age spots, scars, and pigmentation caused by UV rays. I love how it provides a lifting and firming effect, visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Talk about a multi-purpose product!
Step 8: Face Wash

Washing my face in the shower is gamechanging. I prefer this over the messiness of washing it in the sink. I always use the Versed Cleansing Balm ($18) to remove my makeup which helps get off any residual product that normal cleanser might miss. Plus, it does this in a gentle hydrating way. After my makeup is gone, I go in with the CLEARSTEM’s Vitamin-Infused Calming Wash ($38). This product is perfect for sensitive skin and great for removing makeup.
POST-SHOWER
Step 9: Moisturize
After all that cleansing, rehydration is crucial. I moisturize with Nécessaire’s Body Lotion ($45). With its lightweight yet deeply hydrating formula, it applies effortlessly, absorbing quickly without leaving any greasy residue. Infused with niacinamide, vitamins, and peptides, this lotion not only nourishes my skin but also helps to improve its texture and tone. Plus, the subtle, clean scent is refreshing and not overpowering, perfect for bedtime. Throw on this Hotel Robe, and I truly feel like I’m at the spa!
