On the scale between minimalist and maximalist, I would say I lean more towards the former. While I’m not one to whittle my wardrobe down to just a dozen pieces, and I definitely have a surplus of ceramic coffee mugs, I try to keep my possessions fairly lean. Clutter is my nightmare, which is why you’ll never find single-use kitchen appliances, decorative tchotchkes, or extraneous beauty products lying around my house. So, you can imagine my skepticism when I first discovered towel warmers while perusing social media late one night. Who actually needs that? I asked myself, feeling holier than thou. But, dear reader, I shouldn’t have thrown stones from my glass house because you know who needs it? Me. I do. I need my towel warmer more than I’ve ever needed anything that I don’t actually need in my entire life.

Needless to say, I gave in to the temptation, and my daily self-care routines were instantly transformed. I think it’s safe to say that one of my favorite feelings has become stepping out of the shower and wrapping myself up in a warm towel. It feels luxurious, like I’m at a spa, except I haven’t left my house. Better still, sometimes at night I throw my robe into my towel warmer, apply a face mask, maybe some hydrating under-eye patches, and allow myself to truly relax at the end of a long day. Or, when I’m cold, I toss a pair of fuzzy socks in it for a few minutes for instantly warmed-up toes. I don’t know how I lived without it, but I know I never want to again.

My trusty towel warmer is the PureBliss Luxury Towel Warmer from Pure Enrichment. If I’m being completely honest, what initially drew me to this particular model is that it matches my bathroom, which has white cabinets and brass handles, and it had great reviews to boot. (It also comes in white and brushed silver if that’s more your speed.) It can hold two regular bath towels or even a blanket, and it has four heat timer settings and automatically shuts off when the timer runs out. The towel warmer heats evenly, and I love how it has a relatively small footprint. It’s not very tall, either so it fits in my small-ish bathroom with ease. The handle stays cool-to-the-touch, even when my towel is toasty, and honestly, what’s not to love?

Towel warmers aren’t a luxury only afforded to those with large bathrooms and plenty of floor space. Even if you don’t have room to leave your towel warmer out all the time, you can still enjoy a warm towel right out of the shower. This countertop towel warmer from Zadro is the perfect fit for apartments because you can take it out when you need it and put it away when you’re done. It can fit one full-sized bath towel or a few smaller items, like PJs, socks, or a robe. It stands only 13.5 inches tall, so you can store it under your sink, in your closet, or on open shelving in your bathroom. With four timer settings, it has all the same functionality of larger models but with a much smaller footprint.

If aromatherapy is part of your self-care routine, Zadro’s Towel Warmer with Aromatherapy Diffuser delivers two little luxuries for the price of one. The large heater tub can hold two large bath towels or one large blanket, making it one of the most versatile options when it comes to towel warmers. An essential oil diffuser is built into the lid, so you can add a few drops of your favorite scent to make your towels smell as cozy as they feel. It comes with lavender to get you started, but any essential oil will work perfectly. This model also has convenient cord storage beneath the tub to help keep your bathroom looking tidy when it’s not in use.

If you don’t mind hiring a professional electrician to install it, this classic towel warmer from Pottery Barn takes up zero floor space and is supremely elegant. It’s made of durable stainless steel, which comes in three finishes– chrome, brushed nickel, and matte black– and four sizes that cater to bathrooms large, small, and somewhere in between. The finish is resistant to moisture, so it can also be used to dry wet towels and delicate pieces of clothing in addition to warming up your towels, socks, and robes. A more permanent solution, this particular towel warmer may not be renter-friendly, but it’s definitely visually beautiful to say the least.

Amba

Solo 24” Freestanding Towel Warmer

Amba’s Solo freestanding towel warmer blends the best of both worlds, combining the portability of a tub-style towel warmer with the functionality of a wall-mounted model. Instead of being hardwired to your wall, it has a five-foot long cable that plugs directly into a standard outlet, and you can leave it plugged in at all times, even when you’re not using it. Like the wall-mounted styles, this freestanding towel warmer can both heat dry towels and dry wet towels– up to two at a time. If you have a particularly large bathroom, Amba also makes a 33-inch model. You can even put one in your laundry room whenever you need to hang dry wet laundry quickly.

Now that I have a towel warmer in my bathroom, I truly can’t remember how I ever survived without it. Taking thirty seconds to preheat my towel before stepping into the shower is the smallest act of self-love that instantly makes my mornings brighter and evenings cozier. Regardless of which model or style best suits your space, think of purchasing a towel warmer as an investment in yourself– it’s money well spent.
