Pact Clothing Review: I Decided To Try Earth’s Favorite Clothing. Turns Out, It’s My Favorite Too.

Not long ago, I remember seeing a friend’s Instagram story about changing her shopping habits. She had recently moved into a tiny house with limited storage, which forced her into a minimalist lifestyle: she only bought a new item if it meant donating something that she already owned. Hearing this led me to confront my own shopping habits. I immediately purged my closet, then faced purging remorse, and refilled some of the gaps I had created in my wardrobe.

The result of all this Marie Kondo’ing was a more thoughtful approach to shopping that ever before in my life. It can be hard to find clothes that are made from ethically sourced materials, manufactured in fair-trade facilities, and shipped with respect to the environment -- especially for an affordable price.  That’s where Pact comes in – a brand on a mission to be “earth’s favorite clothing”. Spoiler alert: in the process of them fulfilling that mission, they’ve also become one of my favorites, too.

Made With Organic Cotton, Packaged With Love (For The Planet).

Prior to ordering Pact clothing, I did my research. I was impressed with Pact’s competitive pricing and was drawn to learn more about its business practices. Pact is taking continual steps towards truly becoming earth’s favorite clothing -- all the way down to the packing tape. For starters, Pact’s items are made with Certified Organic Cotton which removes the need for chemicals, while also reducing the amount of water needed (by ~81%) in the farming process. Once the cotton is harvested and production begins, the brand’s clothing is manufactured in facilities with The Fair Trade Certified seal to insure safe working conditions that protect the environment and empower local communities. Eager to see the rest of Pact’s  sustainable practices in action, I placed an order.

The first thing I noticed when my Pact shipment arrived was how carefully packaged my order was. Wrapped in green ribbon with a personalized, handwritten card was a nice touch! Items were individually wrapped in plastic polybags similar to those traditionally used to ship clothing. But, while they still serve the purpose of protecting my garments, these polybags are 100% biodegradable with a patented technology. This plastic is able to be consumed entirely by microbes from within, even under conditions without oxygen. While it still takes a few years to degrade, it’s much better than the hundreds to thousands of years it would take for traditional plastic.

A personal touch from the Pact team to start things off on the right foot.

Soft On Skin, Soft On Mother Earth.

At this point I was already sold, but then I realized how soft my items were to touch. I decided to try a colorblock pullover ($60) that felt trendy but relaxed enough to wear whenever, a casual sweater ($72) that I could dress up, and crew socks (3 for $12) to stay cozy through winter. I can honestly say that once I put the pullover on, it was hard for me to take it off (I’m pretty sure I wore it for three days straight). I love how the coverage keeps me warm but it’s also lightweight enough that I’m never hot. As someone that lives in the south where it’s winter in the morning and summer by midday, this is truly a perfect transitional piece. When paired with my favorite back jeans, a pair of chelsea boots, and the matching crew socks, I received so many compliments on my style. It wasn’t long before I was on Pact’s site placing my next order.

If trendy pullovers and crew socks aren’t on your list of must-haves, that’s ok! Pact also carries a wide range of styles for women, men, children, and babies. You can find anything from basic, staple pieces to those that are trendy and colorful. Additionally, the brand also offers a gorgeous variety of neutral bedding options (like this grey Charcoal Duvet Cover), along with a waffle towel collection

I was expecting the compliments on the pullover, but everyone really loves the socks!

Offsetting My Carbon Footprint One Shipment At A Time

While Pact products are soft and chic with sustainable practices and packaging, the brand’s efforts continue through the shipping process and well past the point of delivery. Pact partners with an eco-tech company that can allow shoppers to offset the carbon footprint of their shipment. Then, after delivery, you can visit its site to print a prepaid shipping label that will allow you to donate gently used clothing to non-profit organizations. Pact’s hope is that you reuse the recyclable box in which you received your items or one that you already have at home to reduce our packaging footprints. The brand calls it the “Give Back Box.”
